Question about 2006 Harley Davidson XL 1200 C Sportster Custom

Have a oil leak top left side off head on 2008 sporster1200.need to know how to change it and the tork settings. Thank you

    Is the oil leak orignating from the head gasket area, beneath the lower rocker plate, or the upper rocker box covers? If it's coming from under the head, the torque and torque sequence of the head nuts is something that I'd have to send you a picture of.

    If you're talking about the lower rocker plate, the 5/16" bolts torque to 15-18 foot pounds and the 1/4" bolts torque to 10-13 foot pounds. The bots for the upper rocker box covers torque to 100 inch pounds.

I have just finished a reseal on my 2000 XL stage I conversion (883 to 1200) and it sounds like you may have a rocker box gasket leak. Which ever it is I need to tell you that there are helpful postings on the web but without following the procedures in the manual, you can do serious and expensive damage starting with the losening order of the head bolts (I had two broken ones, one in each cylinder when I thought I was only doing the rocker boxes). I am glad I invested in the manual and In hindsight, I wouldn't spend double on the gaskets at the Harley Dealer, you can get a whole upper end set for half on ebay.

You might have installed the head gasket wrong (Upside down or backward) or put the left head on the right side, You need to pull that head again and check that all the water holes line up with the gasket between the block and head, Also you should only use oil on the head bolts, the moly will allow the bolts to back off over time.

Leaking oil from top, back and side of engine


Might have a Head Gasket leak. Recommend going to your local car dealer and getting it looked at, will cost probably 50$

Water leak fro left side of engine


You might have either a blown head gasket or a crack in your engine block on that side of the motor. If you dont have any leaks from hoses, fittings or the water pump itself then mostly likely it is the head gasket, another way to confirm and make sure is to do an oil change, if there is chunky build up or sludge like discolorations due to coolant or water leaking into your oil then its the head gasket, and you'll need to definitely have it replaced or look into purchasing another vehicle. If theres no problems with your oil then its a leak from somewhere else. Possibley a heater hose or coolant line.

2008 Yamaha TTR230 cylinder head leaking oil


Re torque bolts on left bottom side of head to 17ftlbs if you can not get a torque wrench in there use a #5 allen and go a quarter turn past snug. This should stop the leak and reseal the gasket. If not you have to change the gaskets top and bottom.

Where is oil pressure switch on vw passat 1.8T 2001 Y plate?. and how do i change it?


it is on the rear of the engine, on the left hand side. it leaks oil a lot and sometimes the switch goes bad too. by left hand side i mean the left of the vehicle, not your left if you are looking at the engine from the front. you replace it from up top. it is iether just below the head on the block, or on the head itself.

I have a subaru ej20 turbo engine i am changing the head gaskits will be replasing them with steel head gaskits and need two know the tork settings can you help


Information taken from Subaru Impreza workshop manual.

Apply a coat of oil to washer and bolt threads.
First tighten all bolts to 29nm (22ft lbs) in this order.
Looking at head with front of engine on your left hand side
Top Middle
Bottom Middle
Top Left
Bottom Right
Bottom Left
Top Right
After doing this tighten them further to 69nm (51ft lbs) in the same order as above.
Back off (loosen) all bolts 180 degrees in same order as above.
Then back them off again another 180 degrees.
Tighten all bolts in the order above to 29nm (22ft lbs) followed by a further 80 to 90 degrees
Tighten all bolts in order as above a further 40 - 45 degrees
Tighten bolts Top Middle and Bottom Middle another 40 - 45 degrees

Job done.

Need the tork setting fro a kawasaki 2008 ZZR 600


Torque settings are as follows, at least these are what I used on my '93 UK E1.
Cover bolts 12Nm, Cover damper bolts 5.9Nm, spring bolts 8.8Nm, Hub nut 130Nm.

Engine problems


Wow thats no good! I know you said it doesn't look like a gasket but I bet it is. It sounds like a headgasket to me. Especially if you have lost torque like you said. Have you checked you oil to see if its milky and not oil colored? If its milky that more than likely you blew a head gasket. I'm not real familiar with these engines so don't take my word for it but it sure sounds like a headgasket issue to me.

Your sure its leaking between the head and the motor block and not between the head and the valve cover right?

If it were leaking between the head and valve cover then it would only be valve cover gaskets which wouldn't make you lose any torque though.

You could start with a compression test and then move to a leakdown test after that to really pinpoint your problems.
