A 93 model is likely to need a chain and tensioner, if you undo the tensioner mounting bolts it should spring out 10-15mm

In the above illustration, item #10 is listed as "Chain Tension Adjuster".

You can try adjusting this to see if it helps.

Cam chain rattle when engine is idling

This bike is well known for cam chain rattle, but it has an automatic tensioner so there are no adjustments. If the bike runs well just ride it. I have a friend that had his cam chain, tensioner and guides, and in less than a couple years it was making the same sounds. If the bike run rough then it is a possibility the chain has stretched and unless you are confident with timing issues take it to a pro.

How do you properly adjust the cam chain tensioner on a DR200?

This is a trick question. You are fortunate to have an automatic cam chain tensioner on your motorcycle. No maintenance id=s necessary. If you are experiencing a loud ticking sound coming from your cylinder/head, you probably just need to do a valve adjustment. IN .08 mm (.003 in) EX .13 mm (.005 in)

Noise from engine a rattle

does it sound like a chain rattle if so could be either cam chain tensioner needs replacing or even the cam chain itself is the noise bad because all chain driven cam engines make some noise

Rattles at low reves only

THE RATTLING YOU HEAR AT LOW R'S IS MORE THAN LIKELY THE CAM CHAIN RATTLING. THE CHAIN TENSIONER IS ADJUSTABLE TO A DEGREE BUT A BIKE OF THIS AGE(IF OVER SAY 10000 MILES) MAY NEED A NEW CHAIN TO ALLEVIATE THIS PROBLEM. LOOSE CHAIN CAN CAUSE CAM TIMING TO VARIATE CAUSING A SLIGHT MISFIRE.
THIS MISFIRE COULD ALSO BE THE RESULT OF DIRTY CARBS. IF SO THEY WILL NEED CLEANING AND SYNCING.

yes you can, but cam chains never fail on this engine, the cam chain automatic tensioner does.

Need to tighten the timing chain

It has an automatic cam chain tensioner. If you are getting cam chain rattle, I would look at worn guides/chain.

Timming chain adjustment

Most likely you have anautomatic cam chain tensioner, which cannot be tensioned, and the only remedy is to replace the cam chain (if it's stretched). If, however, you have a manualy adjusted cam chain tensioner (highly unlikely), you have to look up the tensioning value in your workshop manual.
