Question about Honda CBR 600 RR Motorcycles

1 Answer

I just took my bike out of storage and it would not start up. I keep it on a battery tender and it usually starts right away after storage. I drained the battery trying to start it so I jumped it with my truck. It would crank and crank but would not turn over. Tried giving a little throttle but it coughed but wouldn't go. I think I may have flooded it. Any suggestions?

    A few questions
    What year and model?
Are you getting spark to the plugs?
Did you drain your fuel before storing? If not, did you treat it?

2007 CBR600RR. Not sure if I'm getting spark to the plugs but a couple times the engine coughed so there's something going on in there. I treated the fuel with Stabil before storage.

    It's fuel injected.

Give your carbs a good cleaning, most important, pull and clean your jets. The ethonol in gas will slowly clog them , they have very tiny pin holes to atomize the fuel.

How do I prep my bike for 5 months storage?

Hi Simon, you are a very wise man with forethought if you know your bike is going to be idle for months or longer here are some tips you can use to make restarting whenever that day comes to a hassle-free breeze.
A. Remove battery and keep it close to a battery tender/charger that you can hook up to at least once a month for 24 hours.
B. Drain the fuel tank and inspect the inside for rust, dirt, ethanol sludge, etc, remove and clean the petcock filter if you are carbureted, remove the fuel pump and check the pickup filter and the plastic delivery line for pin holes as these are common with age.
C. Drain the fuel lines going from the fuel tank to the carburetor/induction module.
D. On carbureted models remove the main jet access plug and drain the float bowl or, if necessary, remove and drain the float bowl!!!! this is very important as old fuel can turn to sludge and gum up your jets.
E. Drain engine, transmission, and primary oil this will eliminate wet-sumping and other various leaking situations during the storage time.
Good luck and have a nice day.

How can i jump start my vmax ? i cant seem to get the seat out!

taking the seat of a vmax is really easy. open the seat like your gonna full the gas tank, on both sides is a plastic piece coming from the seat. on nut on each side comes out and the seat lifts back and up. if your talking about just starting with a battery cable you can just reach the battery cables with the seat off. if your talking about jump starting by forward motioin and using the clutch its best to find a hill and get it going and put the bike in 2nd gear and let the clutch out. WARNING. If the bike don`t start you probably won`t be able to push it up hills, it weighs 650 lbs. but you can not jump start the bike without taking off the seat. suggestion, buy a battery tender terminal hookup for $5 and screw the two wires onto your batter and let if hang out the side of the seat, it has a cap over to keep it dry in the rain and if you buy a battery tender you will be able to jump the bike or charge the battery without taking of the seat every time. the battery tender cost from $20 to $40 it s worth the money. if your not going to ride you bike in the winter hook up the battery tender and leave the battery out of the bike for the winter in a garage or basement hooked to the battery tender. cost pennys a month and save the battery life.
hope this helps

I got a road king classic 2007 and it has never been started, it has sat in storage. What do you suggest I do first?

drain the gas and replace with new, do an oil change and check the levels of the primary case and gear box. check your battery hopefully it was disconnected and has been on a battery tender or you have a new one. check the operation of the clutch cable and brakes and lube them if necessary. check tires for cracking and pressure. Some of this may not be necessary if the bike was properly stored and maintained.

The battery has probably gone bad. Install new battery with battery tender leads. Keep battery tender plugged in when bike not in use.

You have a voltage drain on your bike while the key is off that is why the tender wont full charge the battery. If you have any electrical accessories such as an alarm try disconnecting them they may be draining your battery while sitting. If no accessories then you have a short somewhere in the harness causing the drain.

It may still be your battery. My 2002 vt750 dc started all the time for the last 8 years. Then one morning it would not turn over the motor fast enough to start. Tried charging, but no difference. Finally I put in a new battery and it started right up. Your battery of 9 years did a great job, now get a new one.

Kazuma battery will not hold a charge

This is a common problem with chinese atvs. I installed a toggle switch on the positive wire from the battery. When my daughter is finished riding, I simply flip the switch and all power to the bike is killed, preserving the battery.

Strting problem on my wind 125

what else could it be? I'm with stupida dead battery WILL NOT be recognized by a battery tender thats why the light wont come on. Are you trying to jump the bike using a car that is TURNED OFF? You can hook the 2 batteries together and that will help equalize your bike battery enough that the battery tender will recognize that you are indeed connecting it to a battery or you can buy a battery charger and charge it for 20 minutes (or barrow one) which will be more than enough for the battery tender to recognzie the battery. *edit I should mention that the reason a battery tender wont recognize a dead battery is it must see (feel) electricity from the battery. I dont know all the exact properties as in what votage it must see but if it doesnt see it it thinks its not a battery. A charger will try and charge it no matter what it may be. I mean you connect a charger to a metal bar and it will try to charge it. oh if you hook the two batteries together im not sure the bike will start though it may. I have never tried it with a bike but at work we connect two forklift batteries together for 30 minutes and that gives it enough of a charge for our battery tenders to recognize that its charging a battery.,
