Buying a set of cobra low boys and a k&N air filter ossible hypercharger later on but do i really need to rejet.?

The K and N filter should come with complete instructions including any rejetting information you might need (if you need to rejet at all)

hi the air box and exhaust restrict the air movement through the cyclinders to match the jets in the carbs. i have bikes that you can remove baffles or airbox with no problem, others are so finely tunes that it is impossible to run the bike without the restriction. the easy option would be to get a jet and air filter kit. then if you need to restrict air flow any (hopefully you wont need to) you could very slightly raise the inlet/outlet valve gaps to the maximum amount which will open the valves for a slightly shorter time. you could also restrict the exhaust by using large washers on the exhaust gaskets. similar to those used to restrict a bike.

2001 Honda VT 1100 C2 Shadow Sabre Running Lean


I have a 2007 Honda Shadow Sabre VT1100 and I also put after market pipes on it from Vance and Hines. I also have to keep it choked when first starting and sometimes even hold the throttle a bit while it warms up. The bike has two carburetors and the best solution I have found by lots of asking around of mechanics and bike folk is to get it rejetted through Dyno Jet. It is meant for bikes with after market exhausts and much less back pressure from the lack of those stiffling baffles in the stock pipes. I have also noticed the power loss in the middle torque range and backfiring because of the bike running in a lean condition. The Dyno Jet website is a good place to find the correct set and corresponding part number, but then I suggest finding a cheap place online so you avoid retail price :) Hope this helps. Oh, and don't forget to buy two kits...we have two carburators in our bikes.

Apart from going full tilt and bombing the engine. I might suggest putting an aftermarket air cleaner on it. Either a hypercharger or an Arlen Ness kit, maybe even spiked air ram. Either of these will give you extra performance.
I have a VZ1600 with PC III, Cobra slash cut pipes and a Hyper charger and it really pulls hard and goes far faster than a stock bike. At 80km/h in first there is a rev limiter that prevents you going over that, but second so far I have had it up to 130 km/h and still more throttle to go.

I need to know if i have to re jet my 98 yamaha 650 v star if i put on the vance and hines cruzer exhaust just the exhaust nothing else. and also what type and size of jets to use


You can try driving the bike after the install. After you change the exhaust it will run lean. You may want to coat the inside of the mufflers with an anti blu-ing agent or your headers will discolor. If when test driving you notice the bike has developed a flat spot in the acceleration curve you will want to re-jet the carburetors. The easiest way is to buy a jet kit from Cobra, Dyna-jet,etc.($80-$100). Other wise you can just buy several sets of larger jets and change them out till you are happy with the way it runs. Most people that change the mufflers and put in a jet kit, also install a K&N air filter .
More air flow + fuel flow = more exhaust flow (more power)

Carb re-jet


I would rejet the carbs. I would go one size up on the jets. That should clear up the problem.

Have installed hypercharger on 06 roadstar. lost 15 miles per gallon. how can i get some of that back ? roadstar has stock pipes with kuryakyn hypercharger installed. carb rejetted for stock pipes


Take the hypercharger back off. The carb uses fuel according to how much air sucks through. You are putting alot more air through the carb, so it sucks more fuel into the engine. Even if your not burning all the fuel, it's running through anyway. That's the downfall to a carb.

air filters whether genuine or aftermarket seldom add power to the engine
correct tuning of the carby may help
correct ignition timing may gt a bit more
most will come from a better exhaust muffler ( not no muffler as the reduces power )
What is left is a re bore and new rings to get increase capacity out of the engine
the best advice is to talk with accredited bike specialists who do power increases for bikes and then you will see how much extra power you will get for limited dollars
