I agree with Rotax81 - it sounds like you're down on compression. Low compression will make a 2-stroke run rich and will make any engine increasingly difficult to start. What you describe sounds like the classic tell-tale signs of a shot top end, plain and simple.

I would not mess with the carb until you confirm the condition of the top end - it would be like putting a Band-aid on a broken Femur.

Sounds to me like the carb needs sorting, either the float height needs setting or the needle valve is leaking. to test if it is either of them try turning the fuel off and start it, if it runs a lot better then thats your prob.

it might be the rings but it sounds a bit more serious. it might need a new piston as well and the bore might need looking at... the bore will be nicasil (or similar) plated on that bike.

My 93 yz 125 keeps flooding out no matter what i do even when i take the gas line off ill kick it over for a bit pull the plug out and bam soaked with gas

Hi, Gmeckle and the usual suspects are:
1. Dirt or other foreign matter between float valve and its seat.
2. Float valve sticking.
3. Float valve and/or valve seat worn or damaged.
4. Float misadjusted.
5. Float cracked, leaky or damaged.
6. Excessive "PUMPING" of hand throttle grip.

My yamaha yz 125

if your getting spark than i would take the carb off and clean it you could have a cloged jet.( just because your getting fuel from tank to carb dont mean its getting from carb to jug) i would try that first......yz-maniac.

Change plug then use a small amount of starting fluid then kick it if it fires then dies your carb needs to be cleaned pull float bowl pull both small brass jet screws and clean they must be clear to see through when put up to a light reassemble and you should be good

While riding my yz 125 it just died and won,t kick up again

  • If a hole in the piston then install new piston and rings. Next, clean the carbon off the head and install a new head gasket.
  • If cylinder wall is scared the piston has seized up. Pull the cylinder off and take it to the dealer. Have them bore the cylinder and return it along with a new oversize piston and rings.
  • While at the parts counter, get a new stock spark plug and a supply of Yamalube Two Stroke Motor Oil. You need to add 4 ounces per gallon when filling up. This will be a 32/1 gas to oil ratio. NEVER ride the bike without at least the needed 32/1 mix.
Please rate the solution as a "FixYa" if able. Thanks!
