The easiest way to do this is have it done by your motorcycle shop. It is just a few bucks and they get rid of the dirty oil.

I would start with getting the the oil filter drain from Harley Davidson Part Number 63794-10 $19.95. It will save you a lot of clean up. You will also need either a HD oil filter wrench or a special after market one. This is to prevent hitting the sensor that is located close to the oil filter and damaging it. If you can't get the oil filter drain from HD then a long piece of hard plastic of some kind can do the trick. Place it all the way under the oil filter and ensure there is enough coming out past the left side of the engine to drain the oil into a container. Poke a hole in the top of the filter and another hole in the bottom to drain the filter before removing it. Again this will prevent a lot of mess. It gets pretty easy after that, I found the new style plastic coffee containers will fit under the bike perfectly and will hold all the oil the drains from the engine. If you are unclear where your oil drain plug is at this link may help you out.

Why is engine clacking and clanging on start up and hard to start but sounds perfect after started?

Sounds like lack of oil in the top end, IE: lifters valve train. Checked your oil? Using what's recommended for that engine?

Loud valve train

That or very worn cam bearings. Or both.
Usually if the oil pump is failing you will loose oil pressure as the engine warms up. Noise at first is excessive wear in the engine parts.
The noise goes away as soon as oil reaches the worn parts.

Back firing and sputtering after oil change and spark plug replacement, oil was overfill, replace the air filter air lines gasket. This is a Harley Night train 2006, 88ci, fuel injected

Hi Lorabell777, take it back to the dealer and demand satisfaction politely and you want it fixed for free since you already paid big bucks for the practice repair. If they give you any static ask the store manager for the Motor Company's customer service phone number so you can ask them why your dealer won;t waranty their work in a timely manner. Good luck and have nice day.

No problem, just question on oil change,

I would recommend that you change your oil every 3,000 mile or 3 months which ever come first. This just help you keep a cleaner engine and keeps oil at Peak performance and provide excellent protection against sludge which developes with lack of oil change. Once a year seems too long for an oil change. However between oil changes you can add oil if needed. Good luck and thanks for using FIX YA
