Unless the carbs and tank were carefully drained when it was parked up, you're going to probably need the carbs and fuel system cleaned. Miracles can happen though, put a litre or so in the tank on reserve and give it a go. The reason I say a litre is that it's not a lot to drain when you find the bike doesn't run worth beans. Some people would pull the valve cover off and oil up the dried out cam and followers before starting but it's unlikely you'll cause any damage. If you do need the carbs cleaned, don't let just any idiot do it. Take it to a pro.

Engine wont turn over

You have asked a question which cannot be answered without a LOT more information. Like what do you mean, won't turn over? By hand? or by starter? And if starter, have you checked all electrical start systems? Have you TRIED turning it over by hand?? You should have done that FIRST before you ever tried to start it.

If you care about the condition of the engine after 12 years, you have a lot MORE work to do than worry about whether it will crank over. I had the same situation last year with a car that had sat for 10 years, and I worked on it about 2 weeks (off and on) before I ever hit the starter. (Hint: you do NOT want to suck in 12-year old gas and 12-year old oil. Another hint, pull all the plugs and squirt light oil - Marvel Mystery Oil, drain ALL the gas, oil and coolant and replace.) Oh, and by the way, when I finally hit the starter, it fired right up. Now get to work and check back in 2 weeks.

2005 Kawasaki ZX-6R will not start

Hi, Mero21dav it should be noted that the reasons your FI light stays on constantly or flashes and your bike will or will not start and may turn over or not, these conditions will vary from bike to bike depending on the year, make, and model and you should always refer to your owners/service manual for proper diagnostic procedures. It should also be noted that any type of prior work done to the bike or an abnormal event occurrence IE: adding accessories, electrical curiosity/adventures, laying the bike down/crashes, rain storms/bike washings just before FI light issues started can be significant hints/aids into tracking down the gremlin. The newer the bike the more sensitive the ECM becomes and will not let the bike start when aftermarket accessories have been installed without being reprogrammed. That being said the usual suspects are:
1. Faulty Fuel Pump, fuse or system relay switch.
2. Battery starting to fail due to old age/damage, perform a load test.
3. A discharged battery, check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
4. Faulty safety switches/sensors: run/off, ignition, clutch lever, neutral, side stand, tip over, fuel, and or their connections.
5. Broken wire or worn insulation exposing wire to a ground situation especially inside wire harness at tight bends around fairing brackets, under dash panels, under fuel tanks over cylinder heads etc. Many harnesses are open on the ends that will allow water to enter and accumulate at v-bends.
Dielectric grease and contact cleaner are your best friends for wire/cable/harness connectors, look for corroded, broken, or loose pins/sockets.
6. Installation of aftermarket accessories ie. exhaust systems, mufflers, air cleaners, fuel tuners, electrical component etc.

The seat on my gpz 900r is stuck its been lying in the shed for 10 years. the lock will turn but it will not release the seat cheers Kev

Cool bike!, The seat latch is a bar with two hooks that runs across under the seat, you may be able to lever it forward by removing the right sidecover and probing with a long flatblade screwdriver.
From memory ,the latch is actuated with a cable from the lock that has probably broken or siezed.
Sorry, it's been a couple of years since I sold mine.

Can you lower the rear ? if so is it a big job?

The best way to do this is buy some shorter shocks. If your shocks are 12 inch from eye to eye then go to 10 inch eye to eye. You cant go to low cause of the shock travel and the fender may hint the tire and that would be dangerous.
