Did you put in a new battery? that battery is likely shot, and not likely to take enough charge to give a good enough spark to ignite ! Also, make sure the new battery is fully charged!

2007 Honda Shadow Fuel Valve Damaged

Hi Steve, probably the latter and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty.
2. Fuel supply valve/petcock turned off.
3. Fouled spark plugs.
4. Engine flooded as a result of over use of enrichner.
5. Vacuum hose to fuel supply valve/petcock disconnected, broken, cracked, or pinched.
6. Fuel valve/petcock or filter clogged.
7. Discharged battery, loose, corroded or broken battery terminal connections especially the "NEGATIVE" cable inside the harness at both ends.
8. Loose or corroded wire connection at the coil, battery or plug between ignition sensor and module.
9. Spark plug cables in bad condition and shorting, cable connections loose, or connected to the wrong cylinders.
10. Ignition timing incorrect due to faulty ignition coil, ignition module or sensors (MAP, CMP CKP and/or BAS).
11. Sticky or damaged valve or pushrod wrong length.
12. Primary cam sprocket spline sheared or missing spacer.
13. Security alarm needs a reset.

I have a 97 f3 that sat for 6 weeks. Now it will not start. It turns over with no problem, but no spark. Ran great all summer without any issues. So far, I have replaced the spark plugs...what are the next...

well ive fixed this problem multiple times with my bike it definantly sounds like your carbs need to be cleaned, when u leave a bike sitting for a while and leave gas in the bike it will clog up your carberators once those are cleaned the bike should start right up

The bike has sat for a few years. have had the carbs cleaned and rebuilt. I've drained and cleaned the fuel tank. The bike cranks and cranks but will not start. It is not firing at all. Seems like no...

clean the points as well, they may have got muck on them? or even stuck up? how good is the battery?,,, it may crank the bike over but how much power is left for the spark plugs to fire up on? i take it there is petrol getting to the carbs? try this out take a good plug stick a plug lead on it hold it down hard on the head of the bike and spin the motor up, if you got a spark you will see and hear it,,,ps,,get your mate to do the holding down bit (he, he, he,?????)

Bike has sat up for a year or so,wont start, cranks fine, has spark, maybe bad fuel ?

If no fuel stabilizer was added while the bike sat for a year or so.
It is most likely bad fuel with gum deposits.
This can can create some problematic symptoms for you.

It is vital the bad fuel to be cleared from tank/lines and carbs.
You may need the fuel system cleaned as the gum deposits can cause major headaches in the carbs and jets. If the system is not cleaned and even after you get the bike running, you could be miles away and have the fuel fowl jets/injectors, causing shut down.

Check the spark plugs carefully. Oil on the plugs may just need cleaning. Once you get the bike running the oil should burn off if the rings are still in good shape.

Motor needs clean Air, Clean Gas and a hot spark.

Good luck!

Should i do a total teardown of a bike thats sat for 15 years

If it's sat for 15 years, whether it's a dirt bike or a car, you should definately see if it runs first....

If it DOES run...then I would do some maintenance.

If it DOESN'T run, then it's wise to just check a few things first.

Water in the gas tank? Spark plug giving spark? Does it try to turn over? Is there oil?

If if seems effed, then just tear it down...it's cheaper to rebuild it in the long run, then to fix piece by piece, and end up fixing things that didn't need to be fixed.

I've never owned, ridden, or worked on a dirtbike. It's just all common sense.

2003 883 sportster wont start

What u are describing is typical of a faulty ignition system, but could also be a fuel problem. I check by removing the aircleaner and rotating the throttle. If u see a nice spray of fuel, thats probably not the problem. Check for a spark at the plugs. I can explain how if you need me to. If you cant see a good spark, U have an electrical problem. I had a crank position sensor go bad on me. Dont do what I did (replaced the battery, ignition, and regulator as part of my diagnosis procedure)
