Fuel pumps draw a lot of current, so usually go through a relay instead of just straight off the ignition switch. See if the fuel pump is getting voltage and ground, and work back from there. You did not say you even checked the fuse?

Engine turns over but will not start.fuel smoke from glow plugs visible.fuel pump sounds when you turn the key on

I think you're seeing the smoke from the pistons compressing the fuel. Your glow plugs may not actually be working, time to put a meter on them, or cycle the ignition 3 or 4 times to let the glow plugs heat up really good then try to fire it over...plugs may be bad if it starts after cycling 3 or 4 times....Also maybe it's bad fuel, give a small shot of ether into the intake while cranking, if you have water in your fuel that ether will make it fire. Just a one second squirt though, too much ether on a diesel engine can kill it.

Was riding the bike parked it went to ride next day.

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty.
2. Fuel supply valve/petcock turned off.
3. Fouled spark plugs.
4. Engine flooded as a result of overuse of the enricher.
5. Vacuum hose to the fuel supply valve/petcock disconnected, broken, cracked, or pinched.
6. Fuel valve/petcock or filter clogged.
7. Discharged battery, check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
8. Loose or corroded wire connection at the coil, battery or plug between ignition sensor and module.
9. Spark plug cables in bad condition and shorting, cable connections loose, or connected to the wrong cylinders.
10. Ignition timing incorrect due to a faulty ignition coil, ignition module or sensors (MAP, CMP, CKP, O2 and/or BAS).
11. Security alarm needs a reset.

Backfiring and trouble starting

If you change the exhaust pipes, you have to sync the carbs (if you cant sync them, you have to change the carb jets), usually it is backfiring because the carbs are not in balance.

My transmission on my 2001 flhrci suddenly started leaking. don't notice leakage when bike is upright

Clean all oil from the bike exterior. Leave it sitting in an upright position for a period of time. This may require a bike lift or other such device. Then look for leak source. Make sure oil level is not too high. When changing oil it often gets on the cross member and may leak when on the jiffy satnd for a while until it is all gone from this area. Make sure to always use thread sealant and a good o-ring on the drain plug.

New battery re-charged but still wont fire

Check for spark
If yes, it is getting FIRE, just needs AIR and FUEL

Give it a 5-second shot or two of Starting Fluid (Ether) through the Air intake (filter) and try to start

Does it kick and run really fast and then stop?

If not, pull the plug, clean and check for GAP of 2-3 matchbook covers. Retry. Does it run (or try to)?

If it does, Now we have to look at Clogged air or fuel filter or water in line(s)

Remove air filter. Try ether again. If it starts and runs, replace or clean air filter. Done!

If not... Replace AIR filter and Drain fuel into metal or Glass jug, take off fuel filter, open and drain fuel bowl. Replace fuel filter, refill tank, prime, give it a shot of ether and try again. If it runs, Done!

If it still will not stay running, but you can coax it by giving it a blast every 5-10sec, it could be linkage, stuck choke, throttle plate or jets. Give carb a good cleaning, check throttle plate (in carb throat between it and Air Cleaner) and.check Choke. Try again.

If it still will not run, take to mower mechanic.

Kick starter does not turn over the motor

Hi,
There is a gear mecanism that operates the kick starter.
Atteached to this is a stop lock. This is most likely your nemisis. Chances that the gear has brocken are slim.

Cheers
