Question about 2005 Honda CRF 230 F

1 Answer

Honda CRF 230 RPM does not drop to idea all the time when grip released. It is not a mechanical issue hanging up as it is against adjustment idle adjustment screw, but engine stays at high idle unless you goose and return and then will either drop to low idea or die. Problem just started, Carb has been cleaned and there is no sign of any binds, metering rod, main jet and jet holder have been replaced. Carb is all stock.

If all the mechanicals are okay, I would check for an air leak between the carb and the cylinder. Loose mount clamps/screws and/or cracked rubber fittings can cause the problem you describe.

What is the name of the tube that goes from the front of the carb to the head? I had the same problem with a cracked tube and cant find it cause I dont know what its called.. Get back at me Tombones

  • tombones Apr 18, 2011

It is a breather tube. It draws piston blow-by from the engine and ducts the unburned gases back into the fuel system. In a car it is a bit fancier and is called a PCV valve; Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve. Just take the old one to a bike shop and they can cut a new chunk of hose for you. The hose is a bulk item and not shown in the parts books. Thanks for the thumbs up!

2005 Honda CRF 150 F idle adjustment

Hi, Anonymous you need to make sure you have no intake leaks by spraying some Brake Kleen, Contact Cleaner, Starting Fluid etc. around the intake manifold and seals, if the RPM's go up or down significantly then you have a leak that needs to be fixed before you can continue with the carburetor adjustment.
The engine should be at operating temperature with the enrichener off to set the idle between 950-1050 rpm. Turn the idle skrew clockwise to increase the idle speed and counterclockwise to decrease the idle speed. If you have access to your air fuel mixture skrew you may turn it as well, if not there is a video below on how to gain access, make sure you start with clean or new spark plugs. Gently turn the air fuel mixture skrew clockwise until it starts to bottom out "STOP" do not over tighten as it will damage the taper on the end, now back the skrew out 1-1/2 full turns to establish a starting point start the engine and check the idle rpm's and turn the idle skrew accordingly for 950-1050 rpm if necessary, turn the air fuel mixture skrew 1/4 turn at a time and let the engine settle for about 10 seconds, turn the skrew clockwise for a leaner mixture and counterclockwise for a richer mixture, you are seeking the highest rpm your air fuel mixture skrew can acquire without going past 3 full turns from bottom then resetting the idle skrew back down to 950-1050 rpm If you can not detect any rpm change and can not stall the engine by turning the air-fuel mixture skrew all the way in then your pilot/low-speed jet is too big and needs to be replaced with the next size smaller. Final adjustment should be made with a clean air filter mounted to the carburetor.

How do i ajust my suzuki rm 80 carruetar

  • First locate the idle screw on bottom of carberator, It might be under a little 1/4" brass plug.
  • You will need to drill out plug to get to adjustment for smooth idle or correct mixture adjust.
  • Recommend pulling carb off of bike for this procedure
  • You should adjust idle jet first to about 2 1/2 turns out roughly then turn it in or out from there for highest rpm! Once that is done adjust idle speed with manual adjustment on left side of bike for smooth idle and about 900 rpms or so.
  • Basicly that is all there is too it. Unless you are installing a jet kit or something like that.
Good luck and happy riding... HDTV GURU JAY

Honda 2003 crf 230 bike idles fine with choke on,dies with choke off

You sound like you have a blocked idle jet in the carb. Honda trail bikes love new oil, clean air cleaners and clean fuel. After a while a build up of tannins and crusty residue will invade the carby bowl and usually migrate through the carb via the jets and the emulsion tube where the jet needle runs. The easiest way to fix your problem is to remove the carb and go through it. Clean all jets and check float height and generally get it back to scratch. You will have to re- adjust your idle and mixture settings after you have fited it back to the bike. If you are not Mechanicaly savi then I would suggest you take the bike in to your local honda dealer and get them to go through the carb for you.. It's not a big problem and is easlily fixed.

Hope this helps...

Cheers...
