    Hi Pete,

    A few dumb questions:
Is the ignition switch in the "RUN" position?
    Is your neutral light on?
Is your side stand up or down?
Does the start button work with the clutch lever pulled in?

most newer bikes have safety interlocks....I'm more familiar with Yamaha than Kawasaki...but here goes...

First since the bike won't crank normally and has no igntion sounds like an interlock issue.
Ensure the engine kill switch is in the RUN position...rock it off and on to verify.

Is your neutral light operational....even if the bike is in neutral...if the neutral indication circuit doesn't detect it, you cannot crank starter with sidestand down. Try restart with sidestand up...and clutch lever pulled in.

Would a bad spark plug not make my turn over? I have a 87 honda shadow 1100.

Hello there.

Not a bike expert but all engines are similar.

Short answer no. The spark plugs are inside the cylinder heads and have nothing to do with physically turning start it.

One chap had the same problem as you..See here for the story, it was the starter Motor faulty.

Turning her over works pretty much like this. Four items, Battery, Start switch, start Relay, Starter Motor.

Battery provide heavy duty power to the Starter Motor (which turns the engine over) via a RELAY which has a low power circuit. when you press ignition, the relay connects the heavy duty power to the starter to make it turn.;

Not turning over ....
1) Is the Battery charged ?
2) is the Start switch faulty ? (there would be no clicking from the starter relay)
3) Do you hear a click when trying to start but starter motor not turning ? If so it COULD be the starter motor.itself OR the relay. .

The relay looks like this

Hope this helps a bit.

Bike wont start, something with the Battery circuit or battery, we can push start the bike so the bike does run, I charged the battery and had the battery tested and it tests out fine, when I put in bike...

From your description, it sounds like a bad starter motor. That is provided all of the cables going from battery to relay, and relay to starter are not corroded or have poor connections. The relay is a weak point, so it may be damaged as well if the starter has been pulling too many amps.

I have a Kawasaki GPZ1100 97 reg. Charged the battery and put it back on the bike and heard a pop, like a fuse blowing when I turned it on.. I have checked ALL the known fuses including the 30A fuse on the...

Hi Pete, just a guess but the "pop" was probably a bad connection, possibly the ground wire at the engine. Often when not under a load, just the clock for instance, you'll get a volt reading but under a heaver load you loose the connection.
Look for a bad connection in the ground and battery connections, Frank

Starter relay shorts out when I try to start my bike

I guess define shorts out....It melts, it blows fuse. I guess the best way to start is to remove relay and find the wire from the relay socket that operates the starter and apply 12volts. with a fused jumper wire. if the fuse blows than there its either a bad starter or a short to ground on the wire going to the starter. if it turns over fine, then there is a problem from the starter switch to the relay or wiring at the relay box.

Put in new battery still no power. was riding and everything went dead. the bike is a 98 cbr 1100

Hi and welcome to the site,

Initially, have you checked the 30A main fuse? It would be inside the starter relay. To locate the starter relay, follow the cable from the battery's + terminal.

Good luck and thank you for asking.

transmission and engine share the same oil, so it is changed when you change the engine oil, and for that reason I change engine oil on my bike at 2 thousand mile interval.

I have a 1996 honda shadow ace vt1100c2. I just purchased the bike. I had no start-found ign. fuse blown-replaced fuse. Now when I turn on key and put kill switch to start the bike starter turns over...

Either that or the relay that connects the positive lead to the starter is shorted. If you can get into the relay, you may be able to hold the contacts open if the switch is shorted or the contacts may have welded themselves together

Bike in neutral will not start

could be kickstand switch or neutral switch. also check kill switch. starter relay should be under seat by main electrical harness with rest of bike relays.
