There must be wear in the 2nd gear and shift fork.Slight possibilty the end of the shift drum is loose or the indent roller spring is bad, unfortunately it needs to be fixed, if it keeps doing it it may cause more damage

My 2001 yzf 600 is stuck in neutral. whats wrong?

This bike and many of the 600 class lose 2nd gear and slip out on hard acceleration, then at easy acceleration as it wears more and eventually the kicking out of gear can bend a shift fork, the parts are not extremely expensive but the labor is going to be high because of a complete removal and teardown.

2003 SUZUKI GSXR 600 SHIFTING QUESTION I have a 2003 Suzuki GSXR 600 with only 2,500 miles on it (never been dropped or abused im the 2nd owner) and was riding it the other day at around 30mph and suddenly...

The transmission on your bike is not syncronized like a cars trans. When you are trying to shift from neutral at speed you must slow down to allow the gears to mesh. As far as having to rock the bike into gear sometimes, I have owned eighteen motorcycles of different sizes and makes and have had to rock all of them at one time or another to get them in gear. again lack of syncronization. It really doesn't sound as if you have a problem.

2003 SUZUKI GSXR 600 SHIFTING QUESTION

just input , not resolving anything. but i used to have a similar issue with mine, but i had a gs 750t . it has around 20,000 on the clock. sometimes it didnt want to shift into 1st from a dead stop, i had to let out on clutch, then pull clutch again , then it went right in. the gears are so fine cut in the bikes that once they get worn, even the shift fork, it gets a little harder to get into those gears without a little coaxing. by the sounds of it (without knowing the mileage) i dont think id worry too much. especially if its shifting up and down through gears without grinding of any sort. if the clutch is ok on it (being an 03) i assume its still touchy , ull be ok

Falls out of second gear and only second gear, after it falls out a couple times it bends a tab on the linkage rod and will get stuck in neutral. i've already been in this bike to get it out of neutral, ,...

the yzf600r has a large gap between 1st and 2nd gear. if you don't shift into second firmly every time, what happens it that over time the dogs which engage 2nd gear gets worn/rounded off, and the "falling out" starts to occur during hard acceleration in 2nd. once the problem is there, the only way to fix it is to replace the affected gears: 2nd and 6th ( the gear 2nd slides in to), the shift fork, and the shift cam.

this requires a complete teardown and splitting the cases. about $3-400 in parts, depending on where you purchase them, and 8-12 hours labor depending on your level of expertise.

a qualified shop would charge $1500-2000.

Neutral light does not come on until 2nd gear is engaged

The neutral light should only light between 1st and 2nd gears. There may be a "false neutral" at other places. Wear exacerbates (i love big words) the size of these but they don't hurt anything as long as the bike shifts well.
