The best way to see if your fuel pump is even good is to put your ear next to the tank while someone else turns the key too the ACC position. You will hear a whining noise letting you know that the pump is working. If you do not hear this then you must replace the fuel pump. If it has never been changed before then that is more than likely it considering the age of the vehicle. If you do hear a whining then you might want to take one of the fuel injectors out and see if it still opens and closes or if it is stuck closed or maybe clogged. Hope it gets fixed!

Have a good one!

2002 Mazda Millenia no crank no start cranks by stater not key no fire to plugs or fuel pump

Could have faulty starter relay that provides crank signal voltage to starter when key is turned to start. Assume the no voltage to plugs or fuel pump performed when jumping the starter directly at the starter. Was the key turned to run position? Needs to be or no power to rest of system.

I have a ford ranger pickup 1991, 4.0 the problem is 1 don't hear the fuel pump when i put on the ignition switch the engine doesn't start. but the stater crank

Take the fuel line off under the hood and have someone turn the ignition on while you hold a can to catch the gas if it comes out. That will tell you if it really is a fuel problem. If no fuel comes out you need to find the wires going to the fuel pump to see if it is and electrical problem or a bad pump.

2001 e250 5.4 wont start sometimes

Fuel pump issue... no, it seems to be your immobiliser. They are programed to turn off the fuel pump in order to stop thiefs stealing cars. The immobilizer unit is on the fritz and may need to be replaced. I would change it to the company "Black Widow". they make good stuff and all wiring is black so it is harder for thieves to steal your car.

CAR PROBLEM

Check your fuel pressure. When you turn the key to the accessorie point you should hear the fuel pump pressurize the system. If you can't hear it that could be your problem. If you can hear it I would then check the fuel relay..usually not far from the gas tank.

How can you tell if the fuel pump is bad

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. The easiest way to tell if it is kicking on is my listening for the sound of the pump. When you first turn the key, you should hear a humming sound for a second or two. This is your fuel pump kicking on. If you don't hear it, it is not kicking on. If so, check your fuel pump fuse, relay, or reset button if you have one. It is possible that the pump works but is just not getting power. You would have to test it from the pump with a voltage meter to know for sure. If you don't hear it kicking on though, it may be bad. If you have cranked it a lot, it might not turn on because the pump is already primed, so let it rest before you try it again.
