Jeep 2002 grand cherokee dies unless i keep foot on the gas...

The idle relearn needs reset. Keep your foot on the gas at about 900 rpm. Make it idle for about 5-6 minutes. Slowly ease up on the gas until it will idle on it's own, it might take a while. After you get it to idle, it might be idling real low, but on its own, Let it sit and idle until for 20 minutes. After that it should be back to normal. You will have to do this every time you have the battery unhooked for a while.

2002 durango has recently started to stall after it has been filled up. today it would not stay running unless foot was on the gas at all times

try this.
Here is the common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

Stalling

Look for a possible vacuum leak Use can of carburettor cleaner carefuly sprayed around inlet manifold and around injector seals.Spray with engine running and engine will instantly react to any leak no matter how small.Dont allow fan to blow onto paint as carb cleaner will damage it.

Stalling

Good Day,

There could be several causes for this. If I were you the first thing I would check is the timing. If the timing is off enough it could cause this. After timing is checked and/or adjusted the next thing I would check the MAP(Manifold Absolute Pressure) Sensor. I can't remeber if a 91 is fuel injected or carburated, but if it is carburated I would check the carb jets and up the idle adjustment just to see how it would run. Do you have a check engine light on in the car? If you do it's more than likely a sensor either the MAP or TPS(throttle position sensor). If you do not have a check engine light on it's got be timing or something else mechanically.

Here's a place to start.
Let me know about the check engine light and I can assist further.

Hope this helps
