If you can "hear" a vacuum leak then the performance of the car would be greatly affected and the engine would idle much higher than normal. Normal idle speed is around 800-1000 rpm, Check you dash tachometer. If you have a vacuum leak the idle will go up to 1200-1500 rpm.
There are lots of places beside hoses that can leak vacuum such as the EGR valve or around intake manifold. But check that rpm's first to confirm what you are hearing is a vacuum leak.
You can also purchase a vacuum gauge form your local auto parts store. they cost around $20.00+. The gauge should read a steady 15-20", if less, then a leak is indicated

2003 hyundai elantra vacuum leak

Hi there:
One of the best ways to find a vacuum leak is to start the engine, and spray WD40 all around on the intake manifold, and the vacuum lines. If you hit a vacuum leak then the engine will speed up for a few seconds. It will normally be a bad hose, or a hose that has come off.

On the air blowing out of the dash there is a very small vacuum line that comes out of the dash and attaches to the engine. If this line is off or otherwise no vacuum to it the air will do just what you described. You should track this hose down and see if it is hooked up properly.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Why would antifreeze leak on right side of the engine in a 2001 hyundai elantra?

There is nobody online that can tell you where your antifreeze is leaking from. If the hoses are not leaking, it could be anything from a leaking radiator, to a bad water pump, a breach in the head gasket, or a hole in a freeze plug. You simply need to LOOK to see where it is leaking from. That cannot be done over the internet.

Power steering hose has a big leak

The hose will have to be replaced. Usually just a wrench is required. You can go to autozone website, register, login, and view a free online repair manual for your car if you need it.

I own a 1999 Hyundai Elantra 4 door the Heater will not work

Black rubber vacuum hoses are often a cause for heater failure, especially in older cars. Anytime the hood is up and engine is cool start inspecting and following these hoses as far as possible. They should be firm, springy upon pressing and fairly smooth. If soft, crumbly, powdery, oily, stiff/inflexible etc. they should be replaced. The ends should fit very tight over their fittings. Vacuum hose is not expensive so just replace any which are suspect. You may get lucky and find a leaker. If not you have eliminated a future leak. Be sure to mention the vac. hoses have been replaced if you need to write back and ask more questions.
