When i turn the key to start my 2000 buick regal supercharger it'll start and hold for a few seconds then it will putter to a stop. the lights on the dashboard stay on so i still have power. i tried putting it in neutral and giving it gas imediatly after i turned the key, but it didn't help it still died right away.
this has happened randomly throughout the last few months. and i can usually get it to stay running if i turn the key 10-15 times. and after i get it running it'll work fine for the whole ride.
i would just like to know what is causing the problem and if there is anything i can do to fix it

Could be. Does it sound kind of harsh. Should be a soft whirl sound. Could be the security system. Does the security light stay on? Do you hear the pump running after it starts? You can rent fuel pressure testers from auto parts stores.
could possibly be anti-theft problem with key or vats system.
is your security light flashing. if you have questions , call or text me

Hello, the Regal seems to have that problem. Insert your key in the ignition and turn it but do not turn the car on, make sure you here the fuel pump kick in, then at the end of you r fuel rail there should be a cap, remove it, use a very thin screw driver and push that part in, Be careful it's going to squirt gas, that's a good sign. If it does not, check your fuel filter. And last, if nothing above described works first check your negative wire on your fuel pump, second your injectors, they might be clogged.
Best of luck, God Bless.
A coworker of mine said he had the same problem with a GM product the same year. I tried it and it worked, so simple. All you have to do is pull the headlight switch on and then start the car, let it run for a few minutes and now it works normal.
if this car is been sitting, the battery might be low or dead, but if not,
then,
you know your question confuse me a little be, because if your car won't turn, that has nothing to do with the filter, but if the car crank but wont start then it migh be a bad fuel pump, the way to fin that is, by aplying some flamable brake or carburetor cleaner to the intake, then if the car starts or try to, most likelly your fuel pump is gone.
