Hey i have a pontic sunfire 1997 2.2 liter well the car stalled on me so i checked it out and found out it was the timing chain and the timing adjuster so i replaced them and still dont turn on it just pops when i crank it but thats all i checked for spark and there is spark on each wirewat could it be

I just had this problem with a Sunfire that had the 2.2...I found the timing chain tensioner broke apart and not the car out of time.If it is the tensioner you will probably want to drop the oil pan and make sure there are not and particles of the tensioner in there.
some new timing chain do not have mark. if you have the old one check for the marking and set it to the new chain. some mark have a dot on the link and some have a brigther link as a mark
Hello. In 1997 the Sunfire used 2 different engines. A 2.4 overhead cam or a 2.2 overhead valve engine. Both use a timing chain setup. Hope this helps you along. Best of the season to you.
