Engine makes rattling funny noise when changing gear from 3rd to fourth if im just cruising its not the case if im stepping on the accelerator...any ideas please?

  • teulilo Jan 12, 2011

The car is an automatic transmission, would clutch noise still apply? and when cruising (50kph) and it automatically changes from 3rd to 4th it has that sound (rpm is 1.5 (x10000) when this happens. I guess it's when the engine changes from 3rd to 4th wif low rpm it makes that rattling noise, just thought to mention if anyone has the same issue. Thank you for your assistance though.

Sounds like an exhaust system or shield, possible clutch noise? this is something only you or a person actually sitting or driving the car can determine.

Someone dropped my motorcycle while it was parked in the street Apparently they wanted to take a picture on it and managed to drop it Since then I had a variety of problems some which are probably not...

Probably a stuck needle valve Float. Your engine is flooding on one side bogging it down. Depending on your carbs it could be a bent constant velocity rod/pin (same thing really). The racket may be coming from the bad carb trying to stabilize with a bent rod.

Clunking/ticking noise during acceleration in 3rd and 4th gears

This sounds on the base of it to be pre ignition, if so the moment you take the foot off the gas it goes? The cure is to retard the ignition timing slightly, have you recently changed your octane of fuel? this will also cause this?
The noise is caused by the expansion of the compressed gases expanding before the piston reaches top dead centre causing the piston to \'rattle\' left unchecked will cause permanent damage and engine failure

Transfer case/or cats

If you are not feeling the vibration through the wheel, or the seat, it is likely a baffle in the catalytic converter, or if you still havve the stainless outer shields, one of those may have a pair of broken welds. Tap it and you will hear it bang If so, it is easy enough to peal off. if you weld it, make sure it is stainless filler rod or wire..

Crawling under and looking to make sure nothing is dangling loose like rusted exhaust clamps ot the parking brake cable flopping about, is a good idea too.

Car makes funny niose when first accelerated

Could you give a little more info?
IE: Car make/model, age, diesel, petrol etc??

If the car is making strange noises whilst in 1st gearm then this could be a sign of wear on the gearbox.
I would suggest topping up your transmission fluid (either into the gear-box itself, or ctop up normal engine oil).
