There have been many complaints about this dash light. Should be able to let it stand for 15-20 minutes and the light goes out. I know a few people that changed this and it solved the problem. There have been many complaints about this dash light. Should be able to let it stand for 15-20 minutes and the light goes out. take it to an accredited auto transmission specialist shop and have the fault codes read then have a proper diagnosis done
The first saves money and the second confirms the codes revealed
revolutions per minute and is read from the turbine shaft in the transmission
it reports the input drive shaft speed to the TCM so that the TR knows to change ratios
the engine rpms engine revolutions per minute are recorded on the tachometer in the dash so don;t confuse the two different readings
take it to an accredited auto transmission shop to have the sensor replaced
have the fault codes read first
if the car is moving in limp mode with no obvious noises or problems , replacement of the box is a total last resort
light on the dash and limp mode can be transmission or engine or both but the fault codes will show the problem area
The ECU -- engine control unit or ECM --engine control module gets messages from the transmission control module ---TCM--and that TCM controls solenoids and servos , vss and other items that if faulty will put the car in limp mode
read the fault codes
Don't think your mechanic looked up anything to do with your model vehicle or cares to
Without diagnostic manuals you can not work on it yourself
I guess a dealer would know more than some repair shops, most shops would be my first choice, but not the one you went to
Clearing anything is not a fix for anything
If your mechanic told you all sorts of things, then why didn't they resolve them, they don't know, that's why, most likely have no data base to work on much of anything
If there was low pressure before you bought it, why is it okey now, but not work properly, sounds like nonsense to me.
what a lovely car -if it was a manual ,i have a diesel manual one and its a flier ,as for this iam not sure so try reading the codes but if this is a gearbox related fault car then its the scrapyard as this car has no value in the UK but if stuck for spares look here in spain as no end of these cars running around and well appreciated here they are as well .This hunting when cold is the puzzle as it could be gearbox related whereby the gearbox computer is operating the engine RPM idle to stop creep but iam just not sure as i never see any autos of rover just manuals
Its not picking up the engine speed which i think on this vehicle it reads from the ECU ,so i do feel for this sort of fault you will need the dealer diagnostic software for this and maybe even a new ECU ,best advice clear the fault light and take it to a garage and trade it in quick ,Maybe even a nice VW diesel with 70 MPG or dare i mention it a citreon or a skoda diesel manual gearbox then this sort of fault wouldnt bother a manual gearbox as your in control
The computer software on this vehicle is encrypted so its impossible to read any fault with any code reader that i know off ,the only ones that can read it via the internet is the dealer and i can tell you that if it is a solonoid then they are not sold the only spares sold for this vehicle are the rubber pipes and control cables ,any fault inside the box is an exchange gearbox which is 2500 +tax euros plus labour so best advice i can give is to trade it in quick and get the diesel manual version as this is a nice motor but the auto petrol ???
It must be having automatic gears. It seems as if the gear teeth have got jammed up and the sensor automatically switched off the engine to prevent further damage. Also check quantity of the gear box. Anyway only a proper mechanic will be able to release the tangle, if any, but my sixth sense seems as if the parking sensor has malfunctioned therefore not releasing the safety feature of driving and thus not responding to the remote starter..........sodeep
