Running rough

Put some premium or high test gas in the tank and a can of Seafoam. Take it out for a good drive. Sitting for a year or so will cause the old gas to varnish in the fuel lines and injectors. Whyen you park it again, make sure there is NO regular gas in it. Regular gas with ethanol will create havoc with an engine that sits. It makes water.

If the cap rotor and plug wires are original, I would look at them first.
Also check the condition of the plugs.

My truck has been sitting in a garage for 7 years and want stay running

The very first thing you do is get rid of the gas in the tank. When petrol sits for a year or more, varnish develops in the tank and lines. Once you do that, add a fuel additive for cleaning out a varnished fuel system. Ask your local Auto Zone or whomever you go to, I would then check that you have fuel pressure to the fuel system by removing a line and having someone crank it for you. If no fuel pressure, the fuel pump has been glued by varnish. If you do have fuel pressure, then you should check the distibutor cap on the inside to free any corrosion on the contacts. Make sure the spark plugs are good, and if not change them. Hope this helps.

The 1990 XJ6 has been sitting for the last 2 years and now won't start. The engine turns over fine. The dash gages don't seem to operate. I filled the gas tank with 5 gallons of premium gas. HELP!!!

I wish I could give you an instant fix, but I can't. Do you have spark? If so then its either your fuel pump or the CPS, crank position sensor. If no spark then it could be your coil.

I have a 1999 gmc sierra with (as of 30 days ago cat. converter, fuel pump and filter, cap and rotor) changed in garage. regular oil changes, tune ups as of 8 mths. it has lots of cranking power, but...

If i understand you right the truck has been sitting for two years. If it has been sitting that long without running or moving the gas has turned to varnish...I suggest that you drain and refill the fuel tank, and replace the fuel filter located on/in the frame rail on drivers side.

Has been sitting for 10 years it is a 1982 el camino conquista. how would i get it started

Long time sitting so the carburetor will need to be torn down and rebuilt first. The fuel tank will need to be cleaned as well. Radiator shops do that with a pressure check. Change the fuel filter and a new gas line is recomended as well. Varnish is in the lines as you may know from sitting for ten years. All rubber hoses are dry rotted too although they may look good to the eye. The radiator will need to be pressure check and the heater core too. Coolant sitting in these parts will soak the metallic parts and soften the metals causing build up to plug these cores up from age. You will be better off replacing the radiato and heater core for I know if not drained ten years back they will be no good to use

Car wont start it sounds out of gas but its not

Try changing your fuel filter. After setting for over a year your filter may of have picked up some trash that settled in your tank. Also check your fuses you may of have blown your fuel pump fuse. Also you may try putting some new fuel.

"01 Mustang has been sitting for 2 mos, turns over, won't start?

gasoline will go bad! if you plan to store your vehicle use something like "STA-BIL" to prevent this. you may need to remove the gas that is in it and replace it with some that is fresher.
