I have a 2008 Town and Country and the temp gage gets to dead center and I smell antifreeze. Never remember the gage ever reaching the center before either. So I Checked to see if the radiator cooling fan comes on. I ran the engine and watched the fan it did not come on. So I turned on the AC and eventually the fan came on. I check the fan, fan relay behind the left headlight, and the Lo radiator relay in the fuse box. The all chek good. The relay behind the light had power and the wire from the relay to the fan ohmed good. Ground on fan was good. There was a brown with blue stripe wire to the relay that had a high ohm reading. I assume that this is where the ground for the coil in the relay comes from. Without a wire diagram and repair manual which are hard to come by I am stuck. Can anyone shed some light on why the fan works with the AC and not when the vehicle heats up?

Ok this might sound crazy but you say you smell coolant but never said if you checked to see if it was full posible bad coolant temp sensor or no coolant passing the sensor please more info on coolant usually if low coolant fan will stay on however you say you smell coolant. If the coolant sensor is bad fan wont command on it will have a high resistance a low coolant temps and low at high temps. I would check sensor since its obviously getting hotter than half way if you dont have coolant leak the relay behind the head light by the way is a common problem I would have just changed it if its original and it grounds to body thats why it is riveted however you can bolt them. Hope this helps check for thermostat opening at right temps to.

Water coming out under the chrysler town and country and it dont look like its coming from radiator

Ok , Robin...
Note the color and smell of the 'water'.
is it green and smells sweet?
(antifreeze)
is it clear and has no smell ?
(condensation discharge from the ac evaporator)
is it blueish or pinkish colored?
(Windshield washer fluid)

Next note where the 'water' is comming from
(aprox. location of leak while vehicle is at rest)

turn the A/C off
make sure the windshield defrost is not on also...
let the van run a while in an area you know to be clean and clear of any previous leaks.

Tell us what you've found after doing this.

Thanks !

My 2001 town and country limited is overheating without indication from the gages and has a burnt smell coming through the inside vents of the van.

  • This I understand, a burnt smell coming through your vents, but how do you know it is the engine overheating? You said you have no gauge warning. Is your antifreeze disappearing? In other words are you having to refill the antifreeze? Is the van stopping and steaming? Stalling? The reason I ask is if you are not loosing antifreeze something else could be going on. Antifreeze does not smell "burnt." Antifreeze smells sweet like cinnamon. Give me some more details like what going on other than the smell and how is this effecting the driving of the car?

Why does my 2005 Town & Country radiator fan

The fan is computer controlled and will not come on untill it reaches 212Deg . It should come on though if you turn on the air conditioning, if not you could have a bad fan relay or relay plug.

Smoke coming out vents when defrost is on and temp gauge goes up and down in 1994 Taurus

The fluctuation in the temp gage indicates a low coolant situation. The smoke you see from the defroster vent is actually antifreeze that is leaking from the heater core somewhere and as the antifreeze evaporates from the heat it causes a vapor to produce. You should smell a very sweet smell when you see the vapor. If so it is definitely antifreeze. Find the leak and fix it. Then refill your coolant system to specs and you should be good to go.
