Make sure cam chain tensioner is
released or removed.place engine on top dead center on no 1 cylinder.marks for this will be found on righthand side of engine after removing ignition pick up cover, line the T mark on the ignition rotor[by turning the 19mm nut on the end of the crankshaft in a clockwise direction]with the centre of the ignition pick up.place in exhaust cam on head with the no 1mark on the exhaust cam sprocket in chain so as the arrow for no1 facing the front of engine and is lined up with the top of cylinder head, fit exhaust cam caps and tension to specs.Place inlet cam on cylinder head with the no1 mark on the inlet cam sprocket facing the rear of engine and is lined up with the top of cylinder head

as with you did with exhaust cam,fit inlet cam caps and tension to specs.now push down on center of cam chain refit cam chain idler sprocket assembly, refit camchain tensioner.rotate engine twice by hand, camchain tensioner should click a few times as tensioner tightens up.WARNING:THE MOTOR SHOULD ROTATE WITH OUT EXCESSIVE FORCE IF THIS HAPPENS OR THE MOTOR WON'T ROTATE THRU A FULL 360 DEGREE ROTATION YOU HAVE DONE SOMETHING WRONG!VALVES MAY BE HITTING PISTONS ETC STOP AND START AGAIN!

Where are the timing marks for a 1998 Nissan sentra gxe

most vehicles have a crank timing mark which sit on the crank pulley, its the big pulley at the bottom of the motor
the cam pulley should also have a mark on the pulley if its belt driven that should line up with a notch on the head or tappet cover
if its chain driven you will need to remove the tappet cover and your cam sprockets will have marks on them that must line up facing each other or facing level with the sides of the head

We are installing a timing chain in our 1995 Jeep cherokee sundown edition for the first time can you please send me the timing gear specs the motor is a 4.0 with air. thank you

By :"specs" I assume you need install position? To index the gears, whne you take it apart, turn the crank pulley 'till the timing mark aligns with the "0" on the timing scale. Don't turn the crankshaft again. When you are ready to install the chain, locate the mark on the crank gear and align the mark on the cam gear so they point to each other. The mark on the crank gear should be at 12 o'clock and the cam gear mark at 6 o'clock. Make sure when you put the cam gear on the cam that the location pin fits into the gear to position it correctly. Jeep recommends that after putting the chain and gears on, you rotate the engine by hand and place the crank mark at 6 o'clock and the cam gear at 3 o'clock, then count the number of pins in the chain (pins, not links) between those two points. There should be 15 pins. If you are rebuilding the engine and have the cylinder removed, it's a good time to check the front crank pulley (some have the outer ring move on the rubber). Put a piece of flat steel across #1 cylinder with a bolt through the steel extending into the bore center. Turn the engine by hand 'till the piston contacts the bolt. Make a mark on the pulley and turn the engine in the opposite direction till contact is again made. Your timing mark on the pulley should be exactly between the two marks you made. If not, make a new mark at that point and use that as your actual TDC reference. If it is radically off, replace the pulley.
When setting up cam position I always use a degree wheel. If you are installing an aftermarket cam
its important to do that. If you're just replacing a stock chain, You will be fine with the method I've outlined.

How do I get the timing right on a Acura legend.

You have to adjust the cam or cams depending on rather or not its a dual over head or single cam motor, with the marks on the crank shaft and oil pump pulley. You can get the timing mark diagrams from a chiltons book or off of Mitchell online. The only problem with mitchell is you have to subscribe to it. The timing cover must come off, the crank pulley also has to come off. When you get to where you can see the timing belt and gears you put the bolt for the crank pulley back in the crack shaft and turn the motor over manually with a ratchet and socket about 5 times until the marks on the cam or cams line up with the mark on the crank shaft and oil pump. If your car is not vtec then the oil pump pulley will not have a mark on it. This is something that probably needs to be done by a shop with technicians who have done it before. It can be a little confusing trying to do it yourself if you have never tried before. I hope this helps. What makes you think the car is out of time?

How to set timing when you relesh tensioner and it changes the alignment postion of pullies 2000 ford ranger 2.5 l

Here is the trick. Align marks. Put the timing belt on the crank shaft pulley first, and after on the overhead cam pulley. Release tensioner and rotate the crank shaft till the timing belt makes two full circles. Try to align marks, you will be at least one tooth off. Align the crank shaft on the mark, and find out how many teeth you are off at the cam shaft pulley. Count the teeth. Remove the timing belt from cam shaft pulley only. Move cam shaft pulley in reverse according to the number of teeth you counted. Make sure the crank shaft pulley is on the mark. Mount the belt at cam shaft pulley.Rotate the belt two circles and check the marks. Repeate this procedure til after releasing the tensioner, and rotating the timing belt two full circles, the mars will be align.

How to set the time belt?

4 Cylinder diesel(4JX1) :

2 - Cam pulley
3 - HP Oil pump pulley
4 - Tensioner pulley

suzman_0.jpg

6 Cylinder petrol:
Align crank(C) timing notch mark (1) to oil pump mark.
Align cam pulley(L+R) marks(3) to cylinder head marks
The cam belt has 3 marks, 2 lines and one mark that is actually a row of dots. Align the dots to the crank pulley groove mark(2) and align the other 2 lines to the cam pulley marks. Using a clothes peg to hold the belt to the cam pulleys works wonders to keep it in place while fitting. Please note the arrows on the belt and have them point in the direction of rotation - right to left side of engine
W - water pump pulley
I - Idler pulley
T - Tensioner pulley.

If for some reason you need to realign the cams on each bank :
Standing in front of the car and starting from YOUR left , looking at the cams you should see RE, RI, LI, LE on each of the camshafts.(R for right bank, L for left bank, I for intake and E for exhaust) Right bank camshafts are marked with one dot, left bank with 2 dots on the shaft itself. To align the camshafts to each other each cam shaft gear has a mark on it. Draw an imaginary line between the centre of the camshaft and the centre of the pulley. The alignment mark should be between the two along this imaginary line. The result will be that RI an RE will be at the top of each gear. The same with the left bank.
