Yamaha 450 Kodiak battery not charging, new battery, volt meter not showing any voltage going to the battery

Hi Brian, get a digital volt meter and start the ATV measure the voltage at the battery or at the alternator it should read around 14 volts when charging, if it reads 12 volts the charging system is not working, check or a blown fuse or broken wire, if you can access the alternator directly measure at that point. It takes 14 volt output from the alternator to charge a 12 volt battery

I have a 2003 Yamaha Kodiak 450. The battery is strong. The motor turns over and I have spark from the spark plug. The fuel is on and flows from the hose. However, it won't start.

Hi Robert,

This does not sound good. It takes three things to run: Spark, fuel, and compression.

Check to see that you have compression. pull a plug and turn it over...

If no compression, you need surgery, something ugly happened.
My Guess is fuel. You need to ensure that fuel is actually getting into the intake and cylinders.

Carbs and fuel systems get plugged up with growths of stuff. I have cleaned out what looked like moss.
You can test by supplementing, SAFELY, fuel and see if you have life. little squirt will usually manifest some life.

Hope this sheds a little light for you.

2000 yamaha kodiak 400 4x4 atv

Make sure everything is connected and there is a good fuse in place. To test the coil you'll want a Ohms meter and a Volt meter as well as the service manual! Make sure the readings on the meters match the ones in the service manual. Cheers!
