Question about Bajaj Chetak 150 Motorcycles

1 Answer

Scooter says it's going 50mph when it's only going 30mph. It has 12" wheels...does it think they're bigger?!! This is actually a Chinese-made, cheap scooter. 150cc 4 Stroke Single Cylinder

Hi, Charles_h252 for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary transport your vehicle to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue. Are you adding oil to the gas? (32/1 = 4 ounces per gallon)
Do you still have spark? Install a new stock spark plug.
Clean the carb, but follow these steps >

Remove the carburetor from the engine.
Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the two screws on the outside throat of the carb and spray into the screw holes as well.
Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two screws down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each screw one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine. Let the bike warm up then set the idle speed. This process should get you back on the road.

SOURCE: I have a 150cc jonway scooter. When I open it up

I found that if I run 87 octane gasoline the engine accelerates up to full speed without the skipping and bogging down at any point it is running. It is worth trying. also try putting some "Sta-bil" fuel stabilizer in the gasoline - it has the ability to keep the carbureator cleaner. Not just during the time you are storing it, but rather all the time.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

On most versions of Roketa 150cc engines, the choke is automatic and electrically driven..  It is integrated with the carburetor.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

SOURCE: Scooter Open Throttle (?)

Assuming the bike is not fuel injected, you either have a stuck slide, a throttle cable out of place such that it is lifting the slide or a really bad manifold air leak. Tighten the clamps holding the carb to the cylinder and the bolts holding the manifold to the cylinder. That should eliminate any air leaks. Inspect the throttle cable, especially at the ends where it connects. Remove the air filter and look into the center of the carb. Does the slide in the throat of the carb open and close properly? Below is a generic carburetor. Your carb will be similar.

Can you override the governor switch?

This would require a Manufacturer programer, and they will hang on to them until you pry it from there cold dead hands. Having said that, you could put bigger wheels on it. put a bypass switch to go directly power from the batteries. (Dangerous and May cause damage to you bystanders and the scooter) not ,not, not advisable. Or could go gasoline engine power it, like on YOUTube.
Just don't do it!

Is there a battery replacement for my L4 that will give me a longer running time?

There isn't room onboad for bigger batteries. But you can cheat by constructing a two wheeled trailer just big enough to hold two more batteries they can be as big as you want. When the on-board batteries get low flip a switch and your running on out-board batteries. Be sure the trailor is conntructed to be as lite weight as possible. you can buy trailers for scooter. I did it the lazy way, I wired my external batteries directly to my internal battery terminals due to amp loading. If they are lets say 50amp to your 15amp on- board batteries you are going to go way more miles than with15amp batteries. WARNING this setup you don't hook fully charged big batteries into discharged small. batteries. I don't let my on-board batteries get to discharged. I've spliced into the main battery terminal that they are thick enough to handle the amp load which are 12 gage. I also have a 50 amp connector between the external scooter and the trailer for quick disconnect

If the speedo gear is in the front wheel a different wheel would have different gear and mess up the speedo but I'm thinking the gear wouldn't mesh with the old speedo cable teeth.Check a shop manual for stock number of teeth on rear sprocket and tranny sprocket, that will tell the story. While your at it check the stock wheel size compared with what you got.Of course it could be bad speedo. There's springs in there that run needle, so?Maybe borrow one and try it out.Good luck.

Electric scooter Troubleshooting

A small tip here - bigger is better. The large diameter wheels clear gaps in concrete or pavement that would hang up a skate wheel or a scooter with smaller wheels. Most electric scooters also handle well in gravel and small terrain features. We don't recommend slamming electric scooters into a curb to get over it like some people do with their bike. This could result in damage to the electric scooter. Simply Ollie up a curb and keep going.
