Contact me directly at wd4ity@bellsouth.net and I'll scan the pages from an OEM parts book for you. BikeBandit.com has an exploded view drawing but they don't use H-D part numbers. Still, I've had good luck using that site for Japanese parts that I've needed over the years. Make sure you tell me what year model you Sporty is and remind me of what you want. I get lots of request like this and I can't remember them all.

Good Luck
Steve

I have a 1983 harley sporster ironhead that pops out of 2nd gear when down shifting. What needs to be replaced??

Hi Sam, and the usual suspects are:
1. Shifter rod improperly adjusted.
2. Shifter drum improperly spaced or damaged.
3. Shifter engaging parts badly worn and rounded.
4. Shifter forks bent.
5. Damaged gears.
Good luck and have nice day.

I NEED THE OIL CAPACITY FOR THE 35 MM FORKS ON A 1986 FXR TOURING MODEL.

The FXR had the same front fork tubes as the Sportster. Harley-Davidson Type "E" fork oil is recommended. The fluid capacity dry (after disassembly) is 6.4 ounces. The fluid capacity wet (drain and refill) is 5.4 ounces.

Good Luck

Why does front cyl. base gasket keep blowing out on 1984 sportster with stroker kit?

It's unusual for an Ironhead Sportster to blow a base gasket. The reason is that the cylinder bolts directly to the crankcase via four short studs. I would suspect either a warped cylinder base or case. Now, the Evolution Sporty's are bad about base leaks.

Soak them babies in blaster. My 71 sportster forks fell out when I went to clean them up. I'm surprised they didn't fall while driving. Your's should loosen up.

Forks rebuilt, oil leaks.

Just a thought.Aren't late model sportster forks,on the 1200"s,49mm?Check that manual to see if the procedure is the same.If not then guess which one is right.Don't know bout late models but the early mm lower sliders had a fiber washer that could get damaged if the last assembly bolt, allen head, wasn't put in just right.Good luck.

Right front fork seal bad? Oil mess

got away from rear break usage due to weird squealing which I've read about. The book says to use front brake as much as possible but puts downward load on front shocks alot. Damn Injuns. Sorry for the vent its a putter but the wife is asking why is it apart more than on the road. The wife I can fix the bike I need help.I'd replace the O-ring on the cap on top of the fork tube first. The turn signal is kinda high to be getting oil on it from a fork seal leaking.,,
