HI, WHEN REPLACING THE COOLANT IN A WATER COOLED ENGINE IT IS ALWAYS BEST TO USE , EITHER A READY MIXED COOLANT, OR A MIXTURE OF ANTIFREEZE AND WATER, THESE WILL HELP PROTECT YOUR ENGINE AGAINST COROSION, AND STOP THE SYSTEM FROM FREEZING UP IN THE EVENT OF VERY LOW TEMPRATURES.

I have a 97 Honda shadow spirit. I have change the thermostat and the fan switch. And the temperature light still is coming on? Water pump is working! Help please

Hi, Lisa you have to isolate the problem is the engine actually overheating or is it a false alarm and just a grounded bulb in the temperature light circuit, normal engine oil temperature is 180-230 degrees, are you low on engine oil, does the cooling system need bleeding and the usual suspects are:
1. Low coolant level.
2. Restricted radiator air flow.
3. Faulty thermostat.
4. Coolant pump or fans inoperative.
5. Vent hose crimped.
6. Air in the coolant.

Tip

What to do when you phone drops into water or any liquid.

When your phone drops into water or any kind of liquid, the phone has to be fully dried for it to work well again.

Immediately your phone drops into any liquid, first thing to do is to remove the battery and clean it very well. After that, get a phone screw driver, unscrew all the phone screws, remove the phone cover in order to gain access to the phone panel. Gently remove/detach the screen from the phone board.

Get a methylated spirit and a soft tooth brush, dip the tooth brush into the spirit and use the brush to clean/wash the phone board. Brush every part of the board with the spirit.

After that, dry the phone board/panel under an electric bulb or under sunlight. Allow it to dry very well. Let the board get hot. Then leave the board for 5mins or more to cool.

After that, couple back the phone, fix in the battery and try again. Phone should power on and function well again.

Good luck.

What type coolant to use in my 2006 honda 750 spirit, and do i fill it from bottom reserve tank or the top

Use only non silica formula anti freeze like OEM Honda or GM Dexcool , the scrubbing particles in automotive antifreeze can damage the ceramic seal in you motorcycle water pump. To change the antifreeze, find the low point of the system. Some cycles have a drain on the bottom of the radiator. Most have a small drain bolt located on the water pump housing cover. Place a pan under the drain bolt, loosen the radiator cap (this will allow the anti freeze to flow faster), and remove the drain bolt. Replace the drain bolt. To top up or fill the system, first, fill the radiator to the top. Replace the radiator cap, then locate the over flow tank and fill it to the full mark. After short drive and a cool down period , recheck the level in the over flow bottle and top up the radiator and over flow bottle as needed.

What type of engine oil i can give my spirit 750 and what kind of coolant can i buy please cause i buy the bike six months ago .. many thanks lino

You can use any oil that is JASO MA certified motorcycle oil. 10w-40 for cold climate. 20w-50 for warm climate/touring. Car oils use different additives and may cause scoring in certain types of cam bearings. Do not use any oil that says " Energy Conserving " on the label . It will shorten the life of your wet clutch and transmission gears. If you choose Synthetic oils, they will help your bike run cooler and shift easier. Shell Rotella T and Rotella T Synthetic 15w-40 are inexpensive JASO MA oils. Rotella oil runs about $12 for regular and $22 for full synthetic. You will need 4 quarts of oil, an aluminum drain plug washer, and a filter. Pour in 3.4 quarts , run the motor, and check the oil level . Top up as needed.
Use only NON SILICA formula antifreeze like Honda or GM Dexcool (mix 50/50 with distilled water unless premixed), the scrubbing particles in automotive SILICA style antifreeze can damage the ceramic seal in you motorcycle water pump. With the motorcycle engine cold , located the radiator cap on or just behind the radiator and fill the radiator to the top. Then, locate the over flow bottle often placed down by your feet and fill the bottle to the high mark. Ride the motorcycle and recheck the level of the over flow bottle after the cool down period. Top up as needed.

How do you check coolant in a 2003 750 Shadow Spirit?

With the engine cold , take off the radiator cap and if necessary top it off. Use only a non-silica antifreeze like Honda or GM Dexcool. Put the cap back on and top off the overflow bottle (to the high mark).

Bleeding Air from Cooling System

With the system cold, fill the radiator with a 50/50 antifreeze and water mixture - fill it all the way to the top, then put the cap back on. Now, fill the plastic overflow bottle about 1/2 way with your antifreeze solution.
Ride the bike until normal operating temperature is achieved (or longer, if you like). Now park it and let it cool down again. Then, check the coolant level in the overflow bottle and add more antifreeze, if needed.
When you operated the engine until normal operating temperature was achieved, all air trapped in the cooling system gets pushed out by the expanding coolant (out through the overflow bottle and into the atmosphere). Then, during the subsequent cool-down period, only liquid is drawn back into the radiator from the overflow bottle as the engine coolant cools and contracts, not air. From this point, as long as the radiator cap is not removed - and the overflow bottle is maintained at the 'full' level, no air will enter the system.

There's a small radiator with cap in front of the engine block. Remove the cap and pour in anti-freeze.
