Do you have a clymer manual-it contains detailed rebuild--you know bottom work is really touchy and if things arent done just rite--issues! even pros develop problems

Timing correct firing off

what engine Shawn. ? how can we guess that?
besides following the FSM steps, we could:
ive rebuilt many engines (done many from scratch) +machine work.

1: I check compression 1st. on all cylinders. (i put oil in the cyl, 1 teaspoon) (some pros run oil gallery primers pumps first in pro rebuild shops) i just crank the zero fuel engine until i see max oil pressure.)

oops. ? no oil pressure, oops, compression bad. on 1 jug.
(all that good, so)
2: i then crank it over , with no spark or fuel and check for top end oiling. Valve covers off. (so those V.C go on last)
ive watched many an noob burn up a new engine, not doing the steps in the rebuilders books. it only takes me 30min. to do this. why skip it.?

3: ok , I got top end oil, got 150psi on all jugs. (hard work pay back)

4: i check for spark all cyl. it's strong, & out comes the timing light.
oops, timing is off, or spark wires routed wrong, (dizzy engines)
i check all cylinders for hot spark and #1 timed right. and routed right.
the strobe light never ever lies to me....

MILESTONE 1: TEST FUEL moments.
5: wow ,car runs on test fuel (spray can, CRC engine start with top end lube feature) (fuel pump is shut off on purpose , in all steps to here)
i repeat this say 3 times, listening carefully for noises, that are not good. (why start the engine and watch it blow up. )
It is so good, to hear it run for 3 seconds,, wow.
im 100% sure you can get here..... if you do the steps.
Now comes, light the fires and kick the tires. not FIRST.

6: now comes fuel
how to get fueling to work.
that takes understanding the ASD and how to use a $1 NOID lamp.

I check injectors then add fuel pressure.
are the injectors firing?
injectors ,click cranking ?(stethoscope tool $5)
if not, use the NOID, is the PCM firing the NOID? y/n?

why do this , with pump dead.
Answer to not wreck your new rings, all washed free of all oil buy
injected, unburned raw fuel .. that is why.
i get all my injectors firing then , turn the fuel pump on.
its your hard labor, 50 hours? to build and engine?
wana waste all that? nah.
I last , plug my fuel pump back in,
does the PCM start enging for 2 seconds, and then cuts fuel?
BAM ASD.
http://www.fixkick.com/Jeeps/ASD.html

ive never burned up a new engine, yet,
im not lucky, or smart, just had good teachers.

jeep ways!
I kill my pump by pulling the pump feed wire.
i do that because some newer jeeps , kill everything (ASD) including spark,
if you pull the fuel pump relay. (jeeps with new pump monitor features)
so i cut the feed AFT of the relay, on all cars. (conn. pulled)
the FSM shows this spot.

hope that helps.

How to unseize an engine do to water

I think that you will have to pull the engine and do a major rebuild on it . If it was running and you drowned it then the con-rods will be bent and may be seizing on the crank or the pistons and rings may be jamming in the bores.

I have a 88 toyota that cranks and runs great, but it has a loud knock, sounds like a rod. Would it would be safe to drive, or should I park it until an engine rebuild. Thanks

Park it!

Whatever damage is now done would only get worse (and more costly to repair) if you were to continue driving it.

Sorry!

Know how to change the oil pump in my 1997 chevrolet SILVERADO?

The oil pump is in the the oil pan so you will need a new oil pan gasket and some form a gasket as well to put the pan back on, because you will have to take it off, you will see the oil pump a soon as you take the pan off, it will have a tube connecting to the pick up screen and to the block, remove bolts from the block and remove oil pump. be prepared the primming rod will probably come out too. itll need to go back of course, make sure seated in correctly because the primming rod runs off the cam. make sure the surface area for the oil pump gasket is clean before reinstalling new oil pump same goes for oil pan. after everything back together refill oil. It is best to test the oil pump before starting for your engine. the best way to do this is to remove the distrubuter if it has one if it has electronic ignition it will have a cap where the distributer went remove that and you will see the top end of the primming rod, fit appropriate socket on the primming rod and use a battery gun to spin, look inside oil fill cap and make sure you see oil flow or oil pressure on your gage if equiped, CAREFULL!!!!!! make sure the socket on battery gun has no way of falling off, or you will have to remove oil pan again to retrieve it.
Another way to prime pump is to disable igniton main power like remove the coil wire, or main power wire for electronic igniton so you can turn the motor over with out it starting, once again turn it over until you know you have oil pressure with the gage or through oil fill cap. put ignition back together start the car and once again confirm oil pressure. If every thing looks good your done Good luck

1976 f250 truck sat for 6 yrs the gas has turned orange and smells like varnish this truck has an electric fuel pump i replaced the fuel filter and tried to start it several times with starter fluid ive...

hello, usually when gas sets in carb for a long time it turns into a varnish, you will have to take carb apart and clean all jets out, even the fuel pump may be clogged up, you will probably have to rebuild carb, unless you have access to air line to blow any and all jets, pretty much all passage ways, power jets, in other words you have a carb problem, you may need a new one, unless you have a strong solvent, that will break away any varnish or gum up.

Knocking sound from the motor 1995 300 se lexus

if you had 0 oil pressure driving that 5 miles, and it was nocking, chances are it is not going to go away, the damage has already been done. the only recourse here is total rebuild or replacement of engine or the very least rods and main bearings if it did not scar the crank, you might get away with new bearings. only way to know for sure is to drop pan, and wiggle rod cap and see how bad it is. , you will know when you find the bad one it will be looser than the rest. as far as the mains are concerned you have to take each one off to see if there scared. i guess the bottom line here is what do you want to spend, either way it not cheap.

Knocking at 2 to 3 thousand rpms

If you didnt have the crank ground or the rods resized and over sized bearings instaled then the issue with your engine is beyond advice other than remove engine and rebuild correctly as there is too much clearance and the oil cannot build enough pressure especialy when hot as it thins out and becomes harder to maintain pressure.Your problem is crankshaft bearings have excessive clearances or oil pumps pressure relief valve is jammed/jamming.good luck and hope its just the pump.

OIL PUMP PROBLEMS

the oil pump is not electronic it is gear drivin . either the gear is bad or the installation was done incorrect. my advice is to start over and sure the rod is seated correctly . you should be able to put the rod in and not be able to spin it. if it spins that means either the gear is completely bad or the rod needs replacing or both. in order to replace the gear you have to remove the timing chain. in your vehicle if you have a distributor and not coil packs you have to remove the distributor and look at the bott of the shaft to see if it is worn out. hope this helps........please rate this.
