HI, QUITE A SIMPLE JOB IN THIS ENGINE, LESS COMPLICATED THAN MODERN BIKES, IF YOU ARE IN ANY WAY CONFIDENT YOU CAN DO THIS THEN JUST MAKE SURE YOU PRE ALIGN ALL THE MARKINGS ON THE CRANKSHAFT, AND CAMSHAFT BEFORE DISASEMBLY, MAKE YOURSELF A DIAGRAME, TOP DEAD CENTRE, WITH CAM LOBES FACING DOWN, YOUL HAVE NO PROBLEMS, THE ONLY TIP I WOULD GIVE YOU IS CLEANLYNESS IS INPERATIVE, CLEAN THE MATING SURFACE OF THE ROCKER COVER AND CYLINDERHEAD, USE A GOOD SEALENT , IE HAELOMAR OR SIMILAR BUT DONT USE SILICONE AS THIS PUSHES OUT WHEN YOU TIGHTEN UP THE FIXING BOLTS, 6mmBOLTS 6-8ftlbs & 8mm bolts 12-16ftlbs (6mm bolts have a 10mm bolt head & 8mm bolts have a 12mm bolt head,

How do I know when to change timing chain on 2006 xterra?

You change timing belts,not chains

All nissan trucks has chain issues until last fall 2009, when the factory installed an updated chain on most 2010's.

If it gets really noisy, then the new chain and tensioners will be needed. And NO, Nissan will NOT stand behind ANYTHING AT ALL. Your on your own.

ALSO - Buy an aftermarket new radiator IMMEDIATELY and install it as fast as you can.
Read the blogs, 2nd Gen Nissan truck 2005,2006,2007 and maybe 2008 have bad radiators from the rad mfg.
The Tran Oil Coolers leak and take out your trans

AGAIN- NISSAN DOES NOTHING FOR ANYONE. Read the internet info

Part requirments for Cam and lifters

Yes you will need the following:

Cam
Lifters
Assembly lube
Water pump gasket
Intake gasket
Timing cover gasket

Lifter removal tool
Puller for harmonic balancer
Cam installation tool/removal tool

I also would recommend replacing the timing chain and timing gears since you are going to have to take the timing chain off anyhow.

You will also need the associated tools to do the job, plenty off rachets, box wrenches and such.

If you are doing mechanical lifters you will also a feeler gauge to measure the valve clearance and make adjustments.

I cant think of anything else off the top of my head.

If you are doing a cam with more lift then I would recommend replacing your valve springs as well, it is easy and it will assure you do not incur valve float. You will have to take the rockers off when you install the new lifters because you have to remove the pushrods. I also recommend you replace the pushrods while you are at it, they are cheap. You will need a valve spring compressor and new valve springs and locks, they are pretty cheap.

Timing belt on 2003 nissan pathfinder

timing belts and chains are 2 very diff things, belts are rubber and wear out in about 80,000, chains are well chains and made of very strong steel they will last the life of the engine in most cars and trucks but not all cases. there is no recommended change mileage by any manufacturer, if the engine is torn down for an overhaul then yes it is wise to replace the chain, but only then, otherwise it is a very expensive waste of money.

Tire replacement

http://www.toolparts.co.uk/acatalog/Motorcycle_Tools.html There is a riveter/breaker tool part way down. Make and model.. you may be able to find one in the states. As for lubing the axle, do it every time, and try to find waterproof grease.
