Question about 1997 Suzuki GSX-R 600

1 Answer

So i just tried to start my bike yesterday after its been sitting for awhile and it just barely started and then died, but after that i tried starting it again and i have no power to anything on my bike (lights, starter, fuel nothing). Note: I had taken the battery out while it was just sitting and put it in when i just tried to start in so the battery should be fine. If anyone can help that would be great thanks!

Motorcycle batteries do not last very long -- and they store even worse. I would try and jump start the bike with the battery installed and see if you can get it to turn over. if it will not start ( crank ),, check the main fuse and make sure it did not blow. as for the ' barely started and died ' -- I would check to make sure that there is no water from condensation in the gas tank which is now in your carbs, drain the carbs and add some gas additive ( water eater ) to the tank and see if that helps.
also if the bike has been sitting for a long time there is a chance that the gas is now bad and will not fire right, ( when in doubt I always drain everything and start fresh ).

main fuse should be in or around the battery compartment along side the relays -- should be a ATC type fues in its own little holder.

Why does my car try to die when i drive down the road?

Try to check the ignition coil, when you driving it become hot then the car dies end won't start. After awhile when it's cold, then it will start. Replace the ignition coil.
I hope it solves the problem

More likely to be your ignition coils. They heat up and expand this can cause an open circuit which will close up again when it has cooled down. Although, a bad charging system may cause this problem. Check the battery voltage with engine switched off ( approx 12 volts) and with the engine running (approx 14 volts) If you are getting 14 volts then your battery is dead, if you aren't, then your charging system has a fault.

The most common issue of bikes not starting after they have sat for a while is the carbs have gotten gummed up from the gas sitting in them. Gas breaks down and gums up the fuel and air passageways in the carbs after it sits for awhile. You need to remove and overhaul the carbs.

This is the single most common repair we see as motorcycle techs.

To be certain it is fuel related, it doesn"t hurt to spray some carb spray into the engine and see if it fires up briefly. If it does then you know its fuel related.

83 xr200r runs for awhile then stops and wont start for awhile

Sounds more like the coil is causing your problems. It overheats and causes the misfire you experience. Coil cannot be repaired. Needs to be replaced. Once the bike has died, take the plug wire off, remove the sparkplug and reinsert the plug into the plug wire. Now let the plug rest on the head. Metal part should be touching the head. Try to start the bike again. The bike wont start of course but you should see a blue spark between the electrodes of the spark plug. If not, swop the plug with another one. If you still dont see a spark it is probably the coil. Other possibilities are the generator and/or condensor.
