If the engine was retuned to accomodate the straight through exhaust then yes it has to be put back, otherwise no.

I changed the water pump on a 1996 Camry and the timing got off. What do I do?

You will have to make sure the bottom timing mark is pointing strait up. Then make sure the top timing mark is strait down. Then put your timing belt back on. Also make sure that the top mark is on exhaust not on the intake valve. Not to hard to do but is teteis work.

1997 VW Jetta 5-speed, 2.0 liter Loosing coolant/water. Some due to evaporation and heat here in Texas during summer, but. . . much more and more rapidly than that would explain. No apparent leak...

You should not loose coolant under any temprature conditions unless you have a leak somewhere. using strait water is not recomended , the engines normal operating temp will be above the boiling point of water. you need antifreeze to raise that boil temp higher. Strait water will boil , turn to steam , and vent out the overflow container , thus slowly disapearing. Drain your system enough to add the correct amount of coolant and see what happens. It's possible that you might be loosing some through a leaky head gasket , which might drip out of the exhaust and / or appear as a higher than normal amount of steam coming out the tail pipe.

Clacking noise at different engine idles on my Yamaha V Star

Lots of bikes make a clacking in the transmission , especially when cold at idle. Basically the engine accelerates and decelerates between each piston firing, and you hear the backlash in the gears slapping back and forth. Without hearing it I can't say for sure, but find someone else with a similar bike and see if it sounds the same.

Have installed hypercharger on 06 roadstar. lost 15 miles per gallon. how can i get some of that back ? roadstar has stock pipes with kuryakyn hypercharger installed. carb rejetted for stock pipes

Take the hypercharger back off. The carb uses fuel according to how much air sucks through. You are putting alot more air through the carb, so it sucks more fuel into the engine. Even if your not burning all the fuel, it's running through anyway. That's the downfall to a carb.

Pacific coast star has some cams and higher compression pistons that will bump your power significantly on pump gas. I respectfully disagree with Dickcanfixit, because there are a couple "full on" kits that can be had for this engine that'll make the harley Boys take a good look at your taillights.
have fun!
