Question about Harley Davidson FLSTC Heritage Softail Classic Motorcycles
The reverse polarity has shorted a possible reverse diode in the semiconductor/alternator pack comprising the auto regulator/charging components. Normally it can be a failure in rectifer./regulator within this unit.
It will be better to replace this solid stage unit if you have a good AC voltage current from the alternator.( do a trial with the solid state unit taken out while you check the alternator current/voltage ) If so a replacement of the unit will solve the issue.
The alternator must be removed to check for the short within if there is no voltage/current. It can also be the failure of a protection diode within the alternator. So check this out.
