Question about 1991 Honda GL 1500 SE Gold Wing
Hello and welcome to Fixya, The Gl1500 choke is operated by a cable. There are 2 plunger type chokes, 1 for each carb, the cable is attached to a bracket and when you operate the choke the lever opens or closes the plungers. So we're looking at either a broken cable, or stuck or partially stuck plungers. So first thing you should check is your cable, remove the choke lever assembly from your handlebar and remove the choke cable, try pulling the cable with your hand, if it comes all the way out, you will be needing a new cable. 2. If the plungers are stuck, this is a very time consuming job and I would suggest a Honda Technician do it unless you are mechanically inclined and want to tackle the job yourself (which will save you quite a bit). You mentioned the Haynes manual, there ok but they don't go into great detail like a factory Honda manual. Which you can purchase threw your dealer or maybe even cheaper on Ebay. But regardless if its the cable that's broke or the plungers, your going to have to get in deep to repair either one. I have done hundreds of these Goldwings and would be happy to try and guide you as you go threw the process, but I suggest getting a Factory manual as well. Just a guess, but your total repair cost + manual less than $100 if you do it yourself. If the dealer does it, depending on your location, could be upwards $400+. But either way call your dealer and ask them for a quote, you may get a great deal if there slow and need the work. Anyway I hope this helps you some, I will be happy to assist you any time just let me know. Thanks for your time, and thanks for using Fixya. Have a great day :) Cycleworx157
