Try to fix your jetting by making the fuel and air mixture richer or you may need to clean the carburetor.

2003 harley 1200 custom sportster with 50 miles strats up fine with choke pulled out. once engine is warm and choke is pushed in 50% bike stalls out. have repalaced gas, spark plugs and just took apart...

A 2003 model with only 50 miles?? Wow....well,since youve already taken the carb apart and cleaned it,did you hook up the vaccum line for the VOES switch on the intake manifold? If so,..when you get the bike running,..spray some brake clean around the intake where it bolts to the heads. If the idle picks up,or starts to sputter,..youve got leaking intake gaskets. Which is a good possibility on a bike that old with that few miles on it.The choke essentailly adds more fuel to the motor, and by what your saying, the bike is obviously running lean. Also,...im ASSUMING that you have fresh gas in it,and the petcock is turned on.

I have a 2003 ttr225 I can get the bike to start with the choke on ihave to let it warm up for an extremly long time before I can push in the choke . once the bike is warm and I hit the throttle hard ,...

Sounds like the idle circuit in the carb is restricted. The engine is running on the choke only. When the engine reaches a certain temp the fuelthat does get is more readily burned allowing you to back off the choke. The choke probsbly can't be completely opened? right? Fuel quality is also something to consider Oil content in fuel affects combustion temps and volatility. _good luck_Ned_

Will not idel once warmed up stalls out if chocke is not pulled out , when choke is pushed in bike shuts down only 1145 miles on bike

With only 1145 miles on your bike, it has obviously been sitting a lot. What has happened is the gasoline that was in the carburetors has evaporated and left behind some varnish which has plugged up the very small openings in the carb jets and other passageways. The carburetors need to be disassembled and cleaned out. This will fix the problem, every time.

I start bike by using choke on cold start after 2 minutes once I push in choke engine stalls can you help?

hi nl friday,

here is a trick i learned from a friend who is a great fan of V twins.

on cold starts he usually opens the drain plug to let the carb balancer / floater set. once a few drops comes out, open the choke then start the engine. right after pushing the choke back, twist the throttle to force the jet to spray out.

hope this will work for you.

regards,

voodoo

Starting?

pull the choke out fully, start the engine, push choke into halfway if it will still run, let it warm for a min or 2. ride it, it may need choke still for about a mile. but thats trial and error, try pushing it in, you will find out right away if the bike still wants it.
i have an owners manual on this bike if you need a copy e-mail me vision-tech@comcast.net
