Question about Sherco CityCorp 125 Enduro Motorcycles

1 Answer

Hello, hope you can help, my first trials bike and its a 2011 sherco 290cc 2 stroke, have had it a couple of months now and still have loads of trouble starting from cold, its ok once started inbetween sections etc. ive tried laying it on its side, choke on, full throttle/no throttle , it only seems to start when ive either kicked it over for an hour or loosen the carb float bowl nut off to let fuel out then it usually starts after 2 - 3 kicks. if this is any help, one of other riders of many years experience and age ,asked if i was going up hill on a stage in 2nd gear as he said it seemed to bog down a bit, he even checked my gearlever to make sure it was in 1st. i have only done 3 meetings . but not fully did all the sections as i was knackered,so really only 1 meet probably. cheers ****

Sounds like you need to strip and clean the carb and check the float needle is ok and the float hight is correct and test it does float in a cup of fuel ! as it could be flooding ! if you have dirt in the carb then clean the fuel tank out also ! these bikes are designed to run at any angle virtually !! G/luck

SOURCE: XR 100 didnt move for a year.My bad so i cleaned

First Make sure you have all new fresh gas,and new fuel filter,Then check the intake tube between the head and carb for cracks or leaks,And You'll need to go back through the carb again as this is a carb issue,But without doing the above first,a clean carb won't be clean for long.

SOURCE: 02 crf450r starts up fine.... let choke off then

I have a crf 250 R and i have learned multiple things about these bikes like if you leave it running and not riding it for about ten min. it will over heat. they love race gas 113 octane, and alot more. but your prob sounds strange. i know if you hold the hot start while its runing it pops that could be a problem. or it could be you are not cleaning the bike out i would need to know more about this to give a definate answer but try going over the bike. Look at key parts like the
air cleaner
fuel line
any thing that is nesessary for the bike to run.

SOURCE: CRF 50cc won't start after giving it a hose down.

hi mczukli,

you may want to blow-dry the spark . block, piston out.

just a piece of reminder, do not use too much pressure on the water and hit the bike on the engine part. Not all screws are torqued to be water tight. so water may get in, then rust it out then ruin your ride.

2011 KTM 250 SXF will not idle

Hi, Anonymous if your bike has been sitting idle for months or years and you did not do any pre-storage maintenance I feel your pain it will probably have a dead battery and not want to start or if it starts it will idle and run poorly, here are the following steps necessary to complete in order to get your bike back to an acceptable running condition.
1. If your battery was 2-3 years old when you last had the bike running you should replace it.
2. If you believe your battery might still be serviceable remove it from the bike and put it on a 1 or 2 amp trickle charger for 24 hours. If it is the old lead acid type with visible cells and acid levels fill each cell to the top line with distilled water and replace the caps, run the vent tube into a plastic or styrofoam cup, any cells that are cloudy/milky replace the battery.
3. After charging remove the leads and let the battery sit for a couple of hours then check the battery voltage with a volt meter, you should have 12.5 volts or better, any readings in the 11 volt range you need to do a proper load test on the battery and replace as necessary, any readings in the 10 volt range you have a dead cell and replace the battery.
4. Drain and flush fuel tank, google " how to clean a motorcycle gas tank" find a couple forums to view the different options available.
5. Remove your air cleaner and clean and re-oil per Mfg. specifications.
6. Remove the carburetor, disassemble and decontaminate with a carb dip or if you have EFI remove injectors and clean with carb spray and compressed air
7. Remove fuel valve and filter disassemble and clean as necessary, remove fuel lines and replace with new ones.
8. Replace spark plug with a new one and check for spark.

My 2008 Sherco Trials Bike has milky oil in the engine/******. What could be the cause besides the obvious water in the oil, how is it getting in there?

That means the blown cylinder gasket and you have to pull down the head and piston block.
Install a new gasket for the head and base of that piston block.
Water begun to leak out from the water jacket seals and into the crankcase. This is cause by overheating or you hit some hard object to the engine block.
Hope that helps you out.
Thanks for asking FixYa!

hi i dont know these bikes personally but, they will have a seperate tank for the two stroke oil,you will probably find it behind one of the side covers,do not put it directly into the fuel tank, that will cause all sorts of drama,as the oil(being heavier than the fuel)will sink straight to the bottom of the tank, fill the carb with oil, then you will never get it started, hope this helps...cheers

Hello, is it possible to buy a Sherco 125 trial (2005) manual? Cheers M.Harrison

to tdc all you have to do is remove spark plug and put a screwdriver in hole and remove timing cover and put a spanner on crank nut and turn in direction of rotation till piston comes up , there should be a mark on flywheel that lines up ! you should be able to see when there !

i know you have to change the oil and oil filter but how often and is that the only thing different from maintance on a 2-stroke?. Im getting an 04 kx 250f any help would be great! The two most important aspects of four-stroke maintenance are frequent oil/filter changes and regular valve clearance checks/adjustments. And some four-strokes (RMZ450 for example) have a manual timing chain tensioner that must be regularly checked/adjusted. Everything else is exactly like a two-stroke.,,,
