My Sony STR-DG1000 has issues. About 10 days ago, when first turned on in the morning, it emitted a loud crackling/popping sound. I turned it off, waited a few minutes, and tried again, and it worked like usual. Since then, the problem has persisted, although the crackling/popping is not as loud and it takes more off/on attempts to get the device working. This morning, it took 12. When the crackling noise occurs now, it's generally a couple of soft pops as the device turns on, then a couple more for each volume level as the volume is turned up or down. Sometimes the "protector" mode kicks in and turns the device off (which seems to happen on the last couple of attempts before the receiver starts to work properly). All of the connections appear to be fine, and I've noticed that when I pull the unit off the shelf to fiddle with the wiring, I can turn it off and on several times for the rest of the day with no problems, but it's back to the popping sounds again the next morning.

Crackling certainly doesn't sound good. How many days past warranty.
Contact them, " 2 weeks ago my washing machine stopped working, I was going on a business trip, and couldn't do anything about it. I checked the fuse and it had blown. I replaced the fuse and it still doesn't work. When the machine failed it was in warranty, please come and fix".
If not, the most likely issue for 'crackling' would be the control board or the motor, leaning slightly to the control board as it has no power visible to it. A failed motor would have power to the board, but nothing happening.

It sounds like you've done quite a bit of troubleshooting, which I applaud you for doing. Have you tried power cycling the TV? Simply turn off the TV, unplug it (and any components connected to it), then plug it back in and turn it on after a minute. See if this corrects the issue. If it doesn't, then I would recommend calling our Product Support team to schedule repairs at: U.S., Canada, & Puerto Rico - 1-800-305-2204 Mexico - 1-888-882-7326 daily from 7 am - 12 am CT.
Protect will usually show up if the receiver was turned up too loud to the point where the speakers will crackle, the receiver will switch to protect to not damage anything. Unplug it for about 30 seconds and check all the audio wiring in the back to make sure everything is plugged in good and tight and no loose cables or stray pieces of copper audio wire and plug it back in.
If the sound crackles when the volume is turned up or down there may be an issue with the volume switch. If the volume is going up and down on its own, I would recommend that you need a new unit as the cost would be greater to fix, then to replace.
There are a few variants for this model depending upon the serial number. From your description, there are some capacitors in between the amp stages called coupling caps that are failing. The hum is some DC current being passed through the output stage. The crackling is probably just dirty controls.
Check all your wires and make sure that none of the wires that are powering any equipment (including extension cords, power bars, and power cables on the unit itself) are running parallel to any of the audio cables going to your speakers or from your inputs to your unit. This could be what's called AC hum, which is caused when the electrical current causes interference that gets picked up by the audio cables and amplified by your system. Just make sure you move the power cords as far away as possible from the audio cables.
I bought my VE-28s and it did exactly that crackled, cerwin replaced part in amp but few months later problem persisted. they then replaced entire amp assembly and its been fine. i really push it to and its been fine. to test it, unplug the connection from amp/ reciever and see if it persists. if so its the sub, if not its the amp/ reciever. dont dump it, these subs really crank and can put out some deep loud bass.
