Hey Karen.. I do not recall what all has been done,...try this.... While you are sitting still, vehicle in park, see if the engine will rev over 2500 rpm?... try holding the engine at 3000 rpm.. see if it will stay at 3000 rpm.. If it does, try 3500 rpm... see if it will stay at 3500 rpm... try this and let me know what happens.... ??when it stops does it sound like its running out of gas??? remind me what vehicle/make/model. etc we are working on .. please...
Karen, use the comment section to reply.. please mark as helpful.. we can connect through comments.. ( I just happened to stumble upon this!!).. Thanks..
@jgamble112, sinse it is a specific rpm, 2500, which is where the rev limiter is usually set to stop the engine when reving up, it sounds like the engine control module, or computer as it is commonly called, this is what controls the rev limitermine had smae problem, same rpm, and in gear too, its only supposed to work when in nuetral, but sometimes the computer doesnt recognize the vehicle has been shifted, hope this helps
have you checked the engine for vacume leaks or advanced timing or even sticking accelorator cable or linkage? these are always a good place to start for excess acceleration
Hello, You could have a stopped up fuel filter or a bad fuel pump or bad gas etc. If you overfilled the trans, that would explain the oil loss. It will also aerate the trans oil and make the trans not work properly. You didn't mention what vacuum hose was broken. This could also cause the engine to not run properly. You need to check the fuel pressure and supply and go from there. Make sure that the trans fluid is 10mm below the mark on dipstick when cold and on the mark when warm. If fuel pressure and supply is correct you need to check the exhaust system for restriction.

I had a similar problem mine would hit a rev limiter at 3500 rpms. it would blow black sut out of the tail pipe. Ended up being mass air flow sensor/valorem sensor. almost 500.00 from nissan. fixed it though.
