I have a 2001 BMW 330Ci..It has been dripping oil for about six months now. Several mechanics have had trouble locating the source of the leak. My oil engine light comes on for 30 seconds every time I start the vehicle then goes off. The oil levels have not been low. I had the gasket replaced that houses the oil filter and the leak stopped for a few months. My car is currently in the shop and they still can't find the source of the leak. Any ideas?

Dear,
Check th below:
1)Check if the torx screw -(it's a screw that allow you to drop out the Engine oil)- is not dripping out any oil.
2) check if the crank shaft sealing is ok.
3) check if the oil pan is cracked or not (especially if you made any accident).
4) check if the oil filter is mounted properly and sealed very well.
5) if the oil is not dipping out of your car but it disappear after short period that means that your engine rings should be replaced or the engine needs an overhaul.
Regards, Eng. Ghassan Alasmar

Im not sure if you are still complaining of a leak or a low oil level warning when level is good. did they replace the oil filter gasket or the oil filter housing gasket. the housing gasket is a common leak that can easily be misdiagnosed because oil runs down the block and can look like a lower oil pan gasket or even a rear main gasket leak.if the oil level is good you need to replace the oil level sensor on the bottom of the oil pan and if it has never been done this paticular year of e46 can have this problem because of an instrument cluster coding issue and you should have the cluster encoded if the level sensor doesnt fix your problem

I have a 2004 BMW 330 ci with coolant leaking from around the left side motor mount. Is there a freeze plug in that vicinity?

It's unlikely that there is a freeze plug in that area. The most common sources of coolant leaks on BMW E46 3-Series models are the expansion tank and the radiator. However, there are a few other possibilities that could cause a leak in that area:
  1. Heater Core: The heater core is located inside the dashboard and circulates hot coolant to provide heat to the interior of the car. If the heater core is leaking, coolant can drip down onto the motor mount.
  2. Coolant Pipe: There is a coolant pipe that runs along the left side of the engine and connects the engine block to the heater core and radiator. If this pipe is corroded or damaged, it can leak coolant onto the motor mount.
  3. Head Gasket: A failing head gasket can cause coolant to leak externally from the engine. While this is less common, it's worth checking to see if there are any signs of coolant leaking from the head gasket.
It's recommended to have the coolant system inspected by a qualified mechanic to determine the source of the leak and to make the necessary repairs.

Oil leak in 2001 bmw 530i , middle towards front? About a quart a month ?

Look for the location where the gasket is leaking. Get someone to remove it and replace it. This is affordable if you buy a new gasket at a local auto store and get someone to do it. The real problem here is that your leak is so significant that you need to be constantly checking and adding oil or you will ruin your entire engine.

Green? brown/rusty? oily?
Most likely is coolant leak but on high mileage engine it can be oil vapor + morning cold air condensation.
How many miles is on this engine?
How much water leakage is seating on for of the engine?
Is it in on particular spot?

I have a loud screeching noise coming from my 330ci

the filter element housing assembly should be right there in the front of the motor above the serpentine belt. if there are ANY kind of oil leaks that might contaminate the belt this is the most probable cause of your frustration. it is also posible to install a serp belt incorrectly. many mechanics would argue this, however i have spent over 2 decades working on some of the finest vehicles money can buy. you are driving one. the key is to be able to read the writing on the belt as you are looking at it. if you locate the writing and you have to stand on the windscreen to read it, FLIP IT! check the belt for cracking and the pullies for misalignment. if a tensioner is coming apart it will show by appearing at a slight diagonal degree. at this point its time to get it replaced before it comes apart. chances are this is all it is but please contact me and let me know if its not or if further assistance is needed. cheers.
