Take off belt cover on the left side of the top cover, turn cleaner over, take out screw from red lock and remove, pull cap and brush roll out, unhook the cogged belt, then you can replace the pump belt thru that opening. Put belt over the pump pulley and stretched to go over the motor shaft. Then check the cogged belt and the cogged end of the pully to make sure that there are cogs, replace belt if there are cogss missing or belt is broke, if no cogs on the pulley, then you will have to replace the pump. Pulley only comes witht he pump.

Cleaning brushes wont rotate

I understand how important the brushes are when cleaning.

You may want to the check the pump belt for breakage for the brush belt and pump belt work in conjunction with the pump.

If you're still experiencing difficulty, you may want to have your machine inspected at one of our Authorized Service Centers. Here's a quick link to help you locate one in your area:

Flow indicator not spining

Yes I also had this problem after just one use. There's several things that you should check. 1. pull side panel off where the belt is located and see if the liquid in the clear tubbing is flowing.I there is a bubble in the line the pump has lost it's prime and needs to be turned off for a minute then restarted. 2. make sure the belt is not broken this drives the solution pump and well as the cleaning wheel. 3. the lines that the solution flow though are clogged. always rinse the machine with water when done cleaning. Good luck.

Cant get any water to floor or hand dispenser on my bissell power pro steam cleaner

That means that the pump belt is worn or stretched and needs to be replaced. Here is a link to the belt you need and the manual which has instructions:

Red x does not turn water does not aooear to release properly

repaired many of these!

most likely its the pump.. the pump is located down by the brush...its belt driven(make sure your belt is there and in good condition)

the heater is located in the handle area...you could remove the hoses and blow through one end...shouldnt be restricted..

other possibilities

  • bladder maybe empty
  • formula bottle maybe empty
  • tank may not be seated properly
  • tank filter maybe clogged

Hi my proheat bissell 7901 stopped pumping water to the floor, but it pumps water from the hand hose. I read the manual and followed how to check belt and the flat belt on right side of shampooer is fine...

just taken ours apart with the same problem... found it was caused by the 2 halves of the main casing coming apart in the area where the upright pedal release is. I found this to be due to the upper casing having broken in 2 places - the bottom of the screw wells. This means that the water tank cannot exert sufficient pressure on the valve to release the water. Only solution is a new top cover assembly

Nobody seems to be able to answer the question on how to change the belt on a bissell steam cleaner ..... Bissell is horrible for never giving customers proper instruction manuels .... THUMBS DOWN FOR...

i have the same prob. this is what i found

Since changing the belt is the easiest fix, we suggest you check that first. (Before attempting any repair be sure your machine is unplugged from the electrical outlet). Most Proheat models have two belts; a cogged belt that turns the brush roll, and a flat belt that turns the pump. If the pump belt is stretched or broken it needs to be replaced. The pump and belts are located in the front of the machine on the operator’s left. Turn the machine over and you’ll see a red retainer with 2 screws. Remove the retainer to gain access to the pump and belts. While you’re there check the red pump pulley, it’s where the two belts are. If that pulley is broken or loose you’ll have to replace the whole pump, the pulley is not available separate.

on your housing you will see a plastic cover adout 4 inches long remove this piece and you should see where your pump belt goes. flip your steamer over and remove the little red retainer that sits by the belt you have located. at this point you can take your brushroll out and slip the pump belt over the pump and onto your motor. then reassemble.

Bissel pro heat /brushes do not turn

Belt worn or hair build up can clog it from spinning. I've seen this on other models. Just remove the hair slowly. If the Belt is worn you can replace that from Bissel or any store that sells their product.

Check to ensure that the pump belt and brush belt are intact and installed according to the instructions provided in the User's Guide.

The pump belt is located under the belt access door on the side of the machine. This belt should be looped around the red pulley and the silver motor shaft.

To check the brush belt, please follow these directions:

Turn the machine OFF and unplug from the wall outlet.

Step on the handle release pedal to lay the handle down on the floor.

Remove the Tank-in-Tank and SmartMix Bottle and set them aside.

Turn the machine over to expose the brush.

Look for the red retainer plates, which hold the black brush arms in place. Remove the two Phillips head screws to access the toothed brush belt. Check to ensure the belt is intact and looped around the brush end, as well as the red pulley with the ridges.

Remove any dirt or debris from the brush assembly.
Inspect brush, brush arms, red brush arm retainers and red pulley for damage and replace parts if applicable.

Bissell Proheat Carpet Cleaner

First remove the some cover on the lfet side that is on top, then turn unit over, remove the red lock plate, has 1 screw, pull it out, then you can pull the end cap out, remove it, the cogged belt is there. If while you have the brush roll off, the pump belt can be replaced also. REmove old belt, put new belt over the bigger round part of the pump pully, feed it thru opening, then from the top, grap it and stretch it over the motor shaft. Then put the cogged belt on and reinstall the brush roll and the red lock.
