  • Jack up your Dodge Ram. Block the wheels to keep it from rolling as you work. Get started by removing the first tire and wheel assembly. Remove the hub extension and the brake caliper as well as the caliper adapter.
  • Remove the grease cap, cotter pin, nut lock, nut, washer and outer wheel bearing. Now, pull the old rotor off of the spindle. Clean the area with a damp cloth to remove any debris. Pack the wheel bearings with grease.
  • Install the new rotor and hub onto the spindle. Replace the outer wheel bearing, washer, and then the retaining nut. Torque the nut to 30 to 40 ft. lbs. while rotating the hub and rotor. Then tighten the nut and install the nut lock and a new cotter pin.
  • Clean the grease cap and then coat it with new wheel bearing grease and replace the cap. Put the caliper adapter back into place and then tighten the two mounting bolts with a torque wrench. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
  • Repeat this process for each additional rotor and then lower the vehicle. Tighten the lug nuts and test drive your Dodge Ram to make sure that the installation was successful.

    On my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2 2WD, I just found

This is a very simple job to do. Raise the front of truck off the ground, block the rear tires. Using pliers and a hammer, remove the grease cap from hub. Remove the cotter key and nut from axle, pull out slowly and remove outer bearing. then remove hub from axle. To remove inner bearing ,prop hub on a board and use a large punch to drive out bearing and seal. Clean out inside the hub and install new bearing and seal. Replace all parts in the reverse as you took them off. Hope this will help you.

buy an older truck to answer question all newer model vehicles have gone to a hub/flange bearing assembly these bearing setups handle loads without or very minimum variance, when you go into a cornering situation these bearing setups give you a steady and consistent track thus a better handling vehicle now instead of cleaning and repacing tose old cone and race style bearings you just unbolt hub assembly and any related abs sensors and bolt on new

2001 Dodge 2500 Front Hub Assembly removal

Get a Haynes book for your model truck for less than $20.00. It has pictures and written directions. It is easy to do.

It is foolish to work on your truck without a service manual. You can order one on the internet or go to a Strauss or Pep Boys store,

2001 ram 2500 how to remove the wheel hub assembly

Remove tire. Remove caliper and caliper holder. Remove rotor. Using a 36 MM socket remove center nut and slide hub off spindle. If hub does not come off freely use wheel puller to remove hub.Loosen front wheel lug nuts. Jack up and support front of truck with jack stands ( put them in the middle so both you can get to both sides of the truck). Remove tire, Remove caliper and caliper holder. romove rotor ( I had to use a 2x4 wedged between rotor and lower controll arm rubber stoper. then started truck and turned the wheel right or left to pop rotor free). remove 3 bolts that hold hub to knuckle. on the next step I used a steel pipe about 1 1/2 foot i think about 2 inches in diamater. wedge it between lower controll arm rubber stoper. then start truck turn the wheel left or right to let power steering pump do the work. It poped it off easy for me both sides in less than 1 hour. put alot of anti seize on the new hubs and bolts in case you have to replace them again. use a torque wrench to tighten all bolts. Great time to replace brakes as long as you are in the area. hope this helps.
