My best guess would be you've lost a magnet from your flywheel or some component from your stator has come loose and is contacting the flywheel. Pulling the left hand cover and have a look...
Take care.

Could also be piston slap, how many hours are on bike since last top end rebuild? Alot of times worn pistons, and or piston pin will cause a rattle. Its just easier to hear on the left side.. Check out ASAP because either one will be expensive if let go to long. I cant imagine a flywheel or stator problem if it has rattled for a while because these are pretty delicate parts that when they do begin to rattle it throws off timing and the motor will not run. But if it has just started to rattle it is possible.... Will bet its piston slap, if not the Crank Shaft and or bearings.....

I start my Yamaha Banshee 350 ATV, it starts fine and idles fine but when I start riding it and gets a bit over half throttle it starts backfiring really bad. Any suggestions on what to look for? TIA

Question edited for FULL 'make model (what it is)', from 'banshee'.
Question moved from Motorcycles to correct Category.

Check spark plugs.
Clean Carb.
Check timing.

More here, it is a known issue.

Yamaha rd 350 lc

Is it possible you have an exhaust valve stuck open or not seating properly? That would cause the fuel to run out of the combustion chamber and into the exhaust pipe, before the spark plug can ignite it. Just something to check out. Good luck to you.

Yamaha banshee stator crank seal

You didn't say what YEAR yours is, so I can only guess.

Here's the info for a 2000 model year:

http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/2000-yamaha-banshee-350-yfz350m-crankshaft-piston/o/m145962sch105466

You'll notice the seal (#11) has a lip that goes towards the engine.

Wiring diagram racing banshee

The best thing to do would be to get the diagram for a RD/RZ 350LC and the diagram for your KX and use this for comparison. There is no such thing as a "Banshee" diagram. It is a custom built motor, made using a Yamaha RD LC engine.

Can you test the voltage regulator on a yamaha banshee

The voltage regulator on a Banshee only controls voltage output to the lighting system.Checking is easy... unplug one headlight, attach voltmeter to ("low beam" hot wire) and ground wire. Start engine. AFTER warming the engine quickly rev engine close to redline (bout 9000rpm). At 9000rpm, voltage to the headlights should NOT exceed 16.3 volts. It it does... it's cooked.

How to fix a cooling leck on my banshee 350 1990 i need a pic of the moter

go to bikebandit.com and look up yamaha 1990 banshee, they have all the schematics and parts you need. if it's leaking from the radiators, try bars leaks from your local parts stores, from a hose, tighten otreplace hoses, if itcoming from the top end (cylinders) replace your head gaskets/o-rings, if you are getting water in the crankcase oil, you need a new impeller shaft seal and if it's just coming out of the overflow bottle (under the seat) you have too much antifreeze in in or you are overheating fror some reason, usually running lean, too slow or internal engine damage...

best of luck and happy riding
