The bike turns over but won't start. Checked the fuel valve and fuel is getting through. so it's either the fuel injection or it's not getting fire.

The fuel injector is probably not pulsing from it's electrical feed. When you spray combustible vapor into the intake, the fuel gets into the combustion chamber by a different path, other than the fuel injector. If there is fuel pressure (?), but no fuel gets injected into the combustion chamber, it could be a sensor problem on the crankshaft, or you could have a clogged or defective fuel injector.

if the bike is fuel injected check the injector leads at the injector for broken wires.

Either there is no injection signal or no fuel pressure.

Might be an immobiliser fault...

The F1 light is the FI fuel injection light. Your bike needs to be diagnosed and scanned by your dealer or trusted mechanic. There is a problem with your fuel system and a code has been registered, your bike won't start or run correctly until your mechanic has scanned, fixed and cleared the code.

Sounds like you're not getting fuel for some reason. If your bike is equipped with a carburetor, the fuel petcock may not be opening properly. In 1996, Harley went to a vacuum operated fuel petcock. The diaphragms in these valves goes bad and will not allow fuel to flow from the tank to the carb. Pull the fuel line loose from the petcock and try to start the engine. You should see a good flow of fuel from the valve. If not, check to make sure the vacuum line is connected to the backside of the valve. If so and you still have no fuel flow, you have a bad petcock. If the bike is fuel injected, you'll probably have to take it to a shop. I have no experience with fuel injected bikes. It could be a bad fuel pump in the tank or something else. Fuel injection is out of my expertise level. I work on the older bikes that the dealers will no longer work on. I hope this helps a little.

If the starter is turning your engine over fast enough, it's not the starter. If it's struggling to turn the engine over, it may indeed be the starter. With over a 100 thousand miles on the bike, I'd suspect the fuel filter would need to be changed. One other cause could be low compression. An engine with low compression requires the starter to turn the engine over longer and faster to get the engine to fire off. I call this "spinning the engine up" like a jet engine has to do. The RPM will increase as the starter spins it and eventually it'll fire. This would mean that it's time for a top end job including rings and a valve job. But, it could be something to do with the fuel injection system. I don't know anything about fuel injection. Sorry. But, I do know that it's supposed to sense the temperature of the engine somehow and enrichen the mixture when the engine is cold.

Check the (vacuum controlled) fuel valve.

Move the fuel valve selector (reserve / main and back few times) to rule out fuel valve diaphragm plate problem.

Today's methonal fuel can cause problem on plastic part inside the valve.


Use small amount of starting fluid to aid starting,

Did the bike start back up or is it dead? If it started back up it was most likely you exceeded the bank sensor setting in the turn.

from your description, i would sugest you make sure fuel is getting to the injector unit, remove the fuel supply hose.if you have spark at the plugs and fuel getting to the injectors you have isolated the problem. i would also drain the old fuel when you take the hose off and fill the tank with high grade fuel. bikes dont like old gas.
