The tenth digit in your vin# is the year.
so your 2000 should be a Y.

1998 W
1999 X
2000 Y
2001 1
2002 2

At the bottom of the Cylinder you'll see a the number which indicates the size.
for example the bottom of the cylinder reads 248 means its a 250
Bottom of the cylinder is the bottom of the jug,
The numbers will either be on the left or right side, not the front or back of the jug.

Mikuni carb diagram

HI Keith. As far as l know the bore size varied over the years, 1987 - first models - were 36mm, l've got a set.
Google Slingshot carbs & Suzuki GSXR 750 Slingshot carbs, there's a wealth of info on how to identify & also do a complete strip down

What year is this Triumph engine # TR5 H18931

Let's start to narrow it down.

From the number, it was made AFTER 1945 (when they started to feature a model code before the serial number), but before 1969 (Triumph changed its serial numbering system to include a two-letter prefix to denote month and year of manufacture, followed by model code and serial number).

The "H" denotes that it is a 500 twin model.

The 1961 production run ran from H18612 toH25251.
Your number falls into this range, so yes, it's a 1961, 500 cc engine, and the model of bike it came off of is called a "Trophy 500".

there must be differences in the valves and carb sizing / jetting to make engines put out more hp similar to briggs with their engines

When asked for serial, I.E. AS01, BS01, etc., the lower the letter, the newer the engine. It doesn't really matter, except for maybe spark plug reach or other subtle changes
