Hello Dj.

Had this happen to me many years ago. The engine had actually seized and locked up the wheel.
A locked up (broken) transmission could also do this.
If the rear wheel itself isn't turning you will need to remove it.
Check the brake shoes, they may have come apart and jammed inside the brake drum.
Check the wheel bearings, one may have overheated and seized.
You will need to locate the problem first and then take it to the next step.
Thank you for using FixYa.

The engine just dies when going down the road and when I try to re-start, the motor won't turn over. Why is this happening?

You didn't tell us is you have the 4 banger, 3.0 or 4.0 V6 engine.

The engine can stall for a number of reasons. For a engine to run it requires air, fuel, compression, and spark at the proper time. I doubt air is the problem. The fuel pump may be cutting out (bad pump, bad relay, bad pump wiring inside the tank (my 93 3.0 Ranger had the last issue). The engine stall could be a lack of fire to the plugs. A bad (cracked) coil, ignition module problem, EFI computer or wiring problem, or maybe an ignition switch problem. The starting system is somewhat isolated and pretty much separate from the ignition system in general. This makes me suspicious of your ignition switch.

Check engine light comes on and sometimes stalls going down road

could be the torque converter staying locked up and the emissions are the only reason for the light to come on , there could be other mmalfunctions will set with out a light ,but the torque converter clutch could lock up and cause the engine to stall while slowing down . get that checked out first .

1987cadallic deville steeringwheel

Usually, vehicles with tilt adjust steering, have a small lever just under the steering wheel column. Pulling this lever out, unlocks the wheel. Pushing lever back in, locks the wheel.

Have a look for a lever of this type and once you find it, have your Dad hold the steering wheel at his preferred position, then push the locking lever back up, to lock the wheel in place.

Let me know if you resolve this.....

My 1988 pontiac fiero V6 keeps stalling. I'll be driving down the road and the engine just stalls. I have to let it sit for a few minutes and it will start back up, but then a mile down the road it will...

You might also want to check your fuel filter and your fuel pump for proper operation before going on so that you dont spend more for uneccessary repairs.

I have a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with 226,136 miles on it. I have almost replaced every part known on this vehicle. Now, the problem I'm having is while driving on major roads the vehicle will ****...

Your mechanic may very well be correct. You said a lot but haven't listed anything you replaced or any codes or tests done to verify those failures though.
Easy way to check the pump is that immediately after it stalls, turn the key back on and listen at the tank. If you cannot hear the pump, likely it isn't running. As the pump begins to fail, it will bind up. As it cools off, it will then work 'till it binds again. A failing pump will not set a code.
As far as the steering locking up, it never is totally locked but without the engine running the power steering pump isn't pumping making it hard to turn the wheel.
If the pump is running, I'd start looking for another solution, perhaps a faulty ignition switch or poor harness connection. Determining those kinds of things is a "hands-on" exercise that takes time and patience, definitely not something I can diagnose online.
So, yes...check that pump out.

Can't move car! Driver Back Wheel locked?

Sounds like your brake diaphragm in the rear that puts pressure on the pads has malfunctioned, if you know where your brake bleeding plug is you can maybe release the pressure real quick then tighten it back, but, it sounds like a repair shop unless you work on them yourself.
