I would say that the alarm works!
Switch off the alarm and it should start.

Why do the lights stay on and why is there hazard lights on this bike

Don't know about your particular model, but some bikes do have the lights wired through the ignition so they are on permanently once the ignition turned on and this would leave the usual right hand switch as a spare. Would make sense to utilise it for the hazards.

Hazards are flashing all the time

It could be defective Hazard flasher connector or short circuit.

try charging the battery or replacing it, change the spark plugs and check the fuses to see if any are burned out.

You have a crossed wire someplace in your wireharness. go back to the dealer and make them change it - it should be under warranty if you bought it new.

I have 1986 Yamaha Venture. I took the luggage bags off to have the rear tire replaced by dealer. Picked up the bike and now I have no signal lights front or back. The front bulbs are working but do not...

The front lights are running lights and turn signals....so you are probably seeing the running light lit, as it should be any time the key is on.
The power for the turn signals goes through the Hazard flasher switch, its set up so you can't try the turn signals and the hazard flashers at the same time. First inspect to see the harness is still firmly connected to the switch.
I would remove the hazard flasher switch and with harness still attached, key ON, the Hazard switch OFF, verify you have battery voltage at the Brown wire.....thats from the Signal fuse circuit. If its okay.....now check the brown/yellow wire for voltage...thats from the switch going to the flasher system...if no power....you have a problem in the switch. A great site for Venture repair is the venturers.org site.
Hope this has helped!

The hazard lights start flashing and I can't turn

there must be alarm fitted that either has the siren disconnected or turned off. Basically sensing an intrusion alert or voltage drop. Flip out the hazard switch, there will be a wire which runs seperate from the body loom into this light, just cut it, the correct one though. if needs be trace it back.....probably end up behind the glove box

Flashing Unit for Indicators Replacement

Most likely it's the hazard switch - the relay for the hazards and the turn signals is built into it. When they start to die, you will see erratic behavior with the turn signals and/or hazards, and eventually they'll both fail completely. Replace your hazard switch on the dash and you'll be good to go.

Hazard and turn signal

Under the dash is a flasher unit. Replace it and everything should start working again. The flasher unit is very inexpensive and available at most parts stores.
