Question about 1999 Honda VFR 800

1 Answer

Bike VFR 800 - 2006. Bought with 2000 Kms on the clock March 2010. Went well until 6000kms service done by Honda dealer. At 8000kms started leaking oil from filter. Checked tightness and found to be tight. Then replaced filter with genuine part. 2000kms later it is doing the same i.e. leaking oil from the filter. Anybody know what is going on? Is it the filter? Or the pressure?

There are a number of simlpe things that you can do in this situation.1) only use Honda filters,I find some of the after market ones poor.2)Check the seat where the oil filter sits for burrs or nasties.3) Are you overfilling your oil, this will cause the oil pressure to go sky high and leak where it can.4) are you 100% positive that is coming from the filter ring,Many tines it comes from above the filter and the extra burns off misleading you into believing its the filter.I just went through the same thing with my bike and it tuned out to be a base gasket. You may have to strip away some plastic on the bike to get a good look.Good luck and good riding.

Hi, Mary you may have a dead short which is usually the easiest to find. Using a test light connected to the hot side of the blown fuse holder, start probing the wire leaving the fuse holder about an inch away from the test light should illuminate, keep probing towards the ignition switch until the test light no longer illuminates you are now very close to the short. 05 vfr intercepter 800 abs. The FI light came on the way to work and on the way back it flashed two times went off for about 1 maybe 2 sec. Then repeated. What's she telling me?

It is telling you the Fuel Injection system sensors have detected a problem. Minorproblems will still let the bike run. Major problems will not let the bike start. Ride to a Honda dealer and let them hook up a code reader. The reader will show what the sensors have detected. Now determine if you want to fix it or have the dealer fix it, based on what the problem is. Please rate my answer.

Misfiring 2007 Honda VFR 800

I would say that your bike may be running a little lean. I usually replace the jets on all my bikes as soon as I get them as the emissions requirements mandate that the manufacturers pass stringent emissions tests prior to the dealer selling them. Some bikes wont even idle or run, especially off road bikes from places like California. and in these cases you must re jet it is a must! I even throw away or drill larger holes into my air cleaner cover.

Good Luck!

Honda VFR800 Fi 2000 W Reg LCD clock problem

The problem is usually a weak battery. When cranking, it pulls down the system so much that the clock resets. Try puting the batt on a charger and start the bike to see if the clock resets with a steady feed of voltage.
