Try jumping across the starter soleniod. If that don't start the machine then your starter probably needs to be rebuilt. Rebuild kits can be purchased for about 35 dollars from any motorcycle shop that deals with J&M ATV or Mcdonald ATV. both these places have websites that will tell you where a dealer is near you.

I have a 05 arctic cat 400 atv. My problem is that it's has constant fire to the coil, with the key off and I can't figure out why.

sounds like the switch may be shorted, or a wire(s) have shorted to one another.... Find the plastic connector for the switch and unplug it... it should not fire.. if it does.. maybe someone has hot wired it??? ... BE CAREFUL!!

The starter engages and starts the motor fine when the motor is cold. however if you ride and try to restart the starter just spins and you can only start using the kick stater.

4x4 atv has intermittent starter problem. won't turn over

#! fully charged - good battery with CLEAN terminals and wire connectors. Starter is easy to rebuild.. If its not starting..try gently tapping starter with a dead blow hammer while holding the starter button down, if it turns over.. rebuild the starter...NOW. Make sue all connections are tight..

Arctic cat atv problems

either battery is not fully charged, or starter or solenoid is bad.
you can jump the solenoid with a screwdriver if you know how. if that starts it then the solenoid needs changed.

2004 arctic cat 500 4x4 starter turns doesnt engage starts with pull cord

The starter has to throw it's gear out using centrifugal force. The speed of the starter has to be enough to overcome the spring inside. It is either a little seized and needs to be rebuilt and greased up, or the battery isn't powered up enough to get the right speed to engage properly. In that case clean the battery posts and clamps well, then charge or replace the battery. To know if the battery is bad wait till it is charged... if it still doesn't engage try again with booster cables from your car etc. and see if it suddenly works fine.

Sounds like starter clutch is binding? Therefore turning starter while riding, then it will melt!
