    Dear all,

I also face the problem. The exact answer is already given by srikantrl. But you should note that it is very difficult to adjust AFR manually. I have gone through almost 10 mechanics. No body has given solution. Most of the people told that it is becaz of valves. Finally in one HH authorized show room they have done AFR with tacho meter, That too when I approached second time . My problem got solved. Do remember ask them to set AFR ratio using tacho meter, making both screws initialize. My problem got solved now I am getting mileage more than 55. Previously it was 30kmpl only. For the oil leakage u need to change the packen seal.

My Mazda Demio. 1.3 is using too much petrol

Okay- thanks for the public announcement;...just kidding!
Mike it sounds like you have a heavy foot on the gas pedal- speeding around town- Ohhh, I gotcha' again! Or someone is pilfering your gas by siphoning it out; LOL

Okay, all kidding aside, the following issues can cause poor fuel economy:
  1. Incorrect tire pressure
  2. a bad or malfunctioning oxygen sensor
  3. dirty or plugged air filter
  4. dirty or malfunctioning fuel injectors
  5. improperly working spark plug(s) e,g. misfires or improper gap
  6. poor driving habits, like sudden accelerations
  7. engine idling for inordinate or extensive amounts of time
  8. and as silly or unbelievable as it might sound, the type of motor oil...the viscosity that is used can affect gas mileage by up to 10-12%; regular oil changes using synthetic or manufacturer recommended oil that reduces friction should be employed.
  9. Defective coolant sensor
  10. Defective thermostat
  11. a leak in the intake manifold or EGR
  12. Poor compression- If you are driving a car that has high mileage, over 100,000 miles, affects fuel economy
  13. clogged catalytic converter or some other restriction in the exhaust system
  14. Dragging brakes
  15. slipping clutch or transmission
  16. Lugging around excess weight in the car
Any single one of...or combination of the above, could greatly reduce engine performance and affect gas mileage.

Hi. I have a 2009 BMW r1200rtse motorbike. I serviced it at 10,000klms and it is now on 15,000. The oil light came on and I see no oil leaks. I would love to get a PDF owners manual and know if the sight...

I have same model. The boxer engines do use oil and the levels need to be checked regularly. The sight glass at the bottom left hand side of the engine is for oil and the oil needs to be in the red ring. FYI my bike uses about 250ml of oil every 2000 miles or so. I always keep a bottle of Castrol Power in the garage! Somewhat perversely the oil consumption reduces as mileage increases. Plenty of infromation about this on the Internet!

CHUCKS OUT CLOUDS OF BLUE SMOKE.

Blue Smoke: Blue smoke is caused by engine oil entering the cylinder area and being burned along with the fuel air mixture. As with the white smoke, just a small drop of oil leaking into the cylinder can produce blue smoke out the tailpipe. Blue smoke is more likely in older or higher mileage vehicles than newer cars with fewer miles.

How did the engine oil get inside the cylinder in the first place? The car has many seals, gaskets, and O-rings that are designed to keep the engine oil from entering the cylinder, and one of them has failed. If too much oil leaks into the cylinder and fouls the spark plug, it will cause a misfire (engine miss) in that cylinder, and the spark plug will have to be replaced or cleaned of the oil. Using thicker weight engine oil or an oil additive designed to reduce oil leaks might help reduce the amount of oil leaking into the cylinder.

Misfires

Hi dude,
99 % this & low milege is due to wrong Air to Fuel ratio.
This can be solved very easily. What you need is only a small screw driver.

Open the black tool box in the right side. Remove a small rubber bush thats there. Inside you can see a small flat screw. that controls the amount of fuel injected to the engine. Turn the thing clockwise a round or two & go for a small drive. Feel the difference & stop when you are satisfied. if your engine knocks, thats even bad. Dont overdo.

NB : This will reduce pickup
