Question about 1999 Honda F6 C Valkyrie

1999 valkyrie took of my tank and have two quesions 1- with fuel in the tank and the gas valve in on position should gas come out. I get no fuel out in any position when holding tank level with fuel in it. 2- I took the valve off and can not get the screen out that the tube goes in. I assume I should be able to pull it out with needle nose. It does not look right in there and I wnted to replace it and the o-ring. Maybe that valve to if it should be flowing when in open position. My bike starts for 2 seconds and shuts off--that is why I took tank off to check filter and the above parts. Bike has only 1400 mi as it sits a lot. thanks

Hi, Johndefauw you may have a vacuum operated fuel valve if your bike has been sitting idle for months or years and you did not do any pre-storage maintenance I feel your pain it will probably have a dead battery and not want to start or if it starts it will idle and run poorly then stall, here are the following steps necessary to complete in order to get your bike back to an acceptable running condition and in the future pour in a bottle of fuel stabilizer and injector cleaner for you FI folks at least 2 times a year and before storage.
1. If your battery was 2-3 years old when you last had the bike running you should replace it.
2. If you believe your battery might still be serviceable remove it from the bike and put it on a 1 or 2 amp trickle charger for 24 hours. If it is the old lead acid type with visible cells and acid levels fill each cell to the top line with distilled water and replace the caps, run the vent tube into a plastic or styrofoam cup, any cells that are cloudy/milky replace the battery.
3. After charging remove the leads and let the battery sit for a couple of hours then check the battery voltage with a volt meter, you should have 12.5 volts or more, any readings in the 11 volt range you need to do a proper "LOAD" test on the battery and replace as necessary, you may have 12.5 volts or better but little or zero amps, any readings in the 10 volt range you have a dead cell and the battery needs to be replaced.
4. Drain and flush fuel tank, google " how to clean a motorcycle gas tank" find a couple forums to view the different options available.
5. Remove and inspect your air cleaner paper elements that are not oil soaked can be cleaned with a soft brush and low pressure compressed air, oil soaked elements must be replaced. Gause mesh and foam elements can be cleaned by soaking them in a container big enough to completely cover them with a solution of 1 gallon of water and 1 oz. of Dawn dishwashing liquid for small and medium size elements, for monster size double the formula and let soak for at least one hour then rinse with warm water shake off excess and let air dry, "WARNING" do not use compressed air as this will embed micro-sized dirt and road grime and destroy the mesh pattern and stretch foam elements out of shape just squeeze it like a sponge and let air dry, use a fan if you're in a hurry. When completely dry spray a very fine mist of air filter oil evenly around the whole element.
6. Remove the carburetors, disassemble and decontaminate with a carb dip or if you have EFI remove injectors and clean with carb spray and compressed air
7. Remove fuel valve and filter disassemble and clean as necessary, remove, clean, and inspect fuel and vacuum lines and replace as necessary.
8. Replace spark plugs with new ones and check for spark.

You need to remove carbs, clean float bowls, remove floats, fuel cut off valve under float, quite a big task so recomended fit new cut off valve in each carb, check also throttle slide mooves freeley before replacing, recently done the same job for customer, you could just clean float cut off valve but at twelve pounds each

if you're getting a start from assisted"spray" start,then it"s definetly not getting fuel to the engine. it may be due to either a bad fuel pump#1 solution. but if you do not hear the fuel pump "hum" in the fuel tank when the key is turned to the "on" position",then the fuel pumps not pumping. this takes 2 people. 1 to turn the key to "on"position,while the other person is under the car listening at the fuel tank for the humming. you may also check under the hood for a bad fuel pump relay,in the main fuse box under your hood.one way to check for fuel pressure is to turn key to "on" position,go under hood to the fuel rack itself{silver} tubing that supplys fuel to the engine,look for a silver tubing on the top of your engine, you will see what looks like a tire valve stem,with a nail or sharp tipped object,depress the valve like stem and fuel will spray out very high and hard when the valve like stem is depressed.be sure to cover your eyes and that the engine's not running!the key will have to be in the "on" position.if this test produces small fuel pressure then you will need to replace the fuel pump,which is located inside the gas tank. most garages place the charge of replacement of fuel pump,on how much fuel is in the gas tank. the more fuel in the tank,the heavier it is to remove the fuel tank.be sure to check your fuel pump relay in the main fuse box under the hood 1st. it's in the main fuse box under the hood.hope this helps you! if you feel like this is not assisting you,please reposy your questions to fixya.com

Valkarie 1999, runs fine some times more then 100 miles, then out of the blue starts missing like out of gas, it wont go, I turn off bike wait a few minutes and it runs fine.


fuel,fuel filter, vapor lock, vented gas tank not venting,bad gas caps, dirty screen,maybe at pedcock,sounds like a fuel problem to me!

You could pull the fuel line off the valve and let it drain into a can ... but I wouldn't.

Why are you draining it? For winterizing? If so ... do this instead. Get some fuel stabilizer at your auto parts store. Fill your tank and add the appropriate amount of stabilizer. Go for a short ride, enough to get the engine to operating temp. Start home. About 1000 feet from home, move the fuel valve to the off position. Let the engine run until it runs out of fuel. Do what ever you would do to store it for the winter.

Another step you could take is remove the spark plugs and shoot a little oil into the cylinders, replace the plugs, and with the kill switch in the OFF position, turn the engine over a couple turns. Some folks like to disconnect the battery, others connect a trickle charger to maintain the battery for the winter.

In the spring, get new plugs for your bike. It should start right up for you.

Hi, Arm_1951 and the usual suspects are:
1. Spark plugs in bad condition or have an improper gap or are partially fouled.
2. Spark plug cables in bad condition.
3. Battery damaged or nearly discharged, should have 12.5 volts.
4. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
5. Throttle controls not adjusted correctly.
6. Water or dirt in the fuel system.
7. Water or dirt in the carburetor.
8. Faulty fuel pump.
9. Intake air leak.
10. Fuel tank vent hose and vapor valve plugged, or fuel line closed off, restricting fuel flow.
11. Enricher valve inoperative.
12. Engine lubricant to heavy (winter operation).
13. Ignition is not functioning properly (possible sensor failure).
14. Faulty ignition coil.
15. Valves sticking.

Valkyrie hard to start, cold weather makes it even worse, bike sat up for 4 to 5 yrs with gas still lined up to carbs. after up to operating temp runs like a champ


Try a tank of fresh gas with Chevron Techron in it. Do the shock treatment. All Honda's are cold blooded. If the system is just a little gummy this should wash it through with out having to disassemble and clean the carbs. Chevron Techron can be purchased at most auto stores. It is also sold under the name "Yamaha ring free fuel additive" but it will cost double.

When trying to start fuel pours from the carby


Been there done that, Carb needle stuck in the open position. Do NOT try to start it this way as if a cylinder fills with fuel it will hydrolock and cranking the engine can break expensive things. If you need to crank it pull the 3 spark plugs on the effected side and crank it over to remove the fuel from the flooded cylinders. This may require carb. removal and tear down if tapping on the carb bowls doesn't fix it. Same thing happened to my 1999 Valk. Interstate.

Install an airfilter on a 1999 Valkyrie Motorcycle 1520cc


Remove the front seat and there is bolt at the tank and at the frontof the tank, remove both bolts. Then lift the tank.. If you have an extra set of hands to hold the tank, you only have to lift it far enough to access the air filter housing underneath, without removing fuel line. If you must remove the fuel line, it's not that bad, but the extra set of hands would keep you from removing the lines and having to empty the tank. Don't use the oil impregnated filters, it won't get enough air. OEM works the best.

1998 valkyrie acts like it runs out of gas , open gas cap runs fine already cleaned out tank


There might be a breather hole in the tank's cap. See if it's blocked. If the tank is completely airtight, at a given time, the pressure inside the tank will be lower than the atmospheric pressure (due to the lowering of the volume of gasoline inside) and then, gasoline stops flowing into the carburettor.
