First, make sure the clutch is adjusted properly. Too much free play at the clutch lever will mean that the clutch is not being fully disengaged with the lever pulled - making it difficult to find neutral. You may also find that changing the engine oil will improve shifting and make it easier to find neutral.

Assuming everything is stock with no aftermarket add-ons, no carb issues, have you tried 1 1/4 turn from full in?
