Car would start idle really bad. Take off really bad spitting and sputtering then smooth out and be ok to drive. @ stop and start again did fine. It was hit and miss. Changed plugs and wires, still runs bad. Now it won't even idle. It'll idle when you spray carb cleaner into it but when you stop spraying it stops running as if its not getting gas. I hear the fuel hum when I turn the key. Could the fuel pump be bad?

Fuel pump may not supply enough pressure to run engine, but it could be a pluged fuel filter as well. you should get the code pulled out of the computer this will tell you exactly what is wrong or at least narrow down what is causing the problem. It could also be either bad gas with water in it or bad timing or wrong firing order.

05 taurus spits and sputters on startup when cold

This can be caused by a problem in the fuel pressure check valve of the fuel pump. Have a pressure leak down test run by a shop, if the system is losing pressure then the pump assembly must be replaced. The fuel pump is located inside the gas tank and is electric

My jimmy will start and idle just fine however when I start to drive it,it sputters and spits then stalls out. when I restart it I have to floor it to get it to start again. if I rev it to about 6-8000...

i would suggest changing the fuel filter if this does't work check the fuel pressure. and get a mechanic to check the ecu fault codes. as this could be caused by a electronic fault.

Somewhere along the the line you may have a fuel blockage or a good dose of water in your fuel tank.Check the water in tank 1st.Add 1 litre of metholated spirits to every 20 litres of fuel. This will allow the water to break down and be burnt through the motor over time.Do this twice. If this does not work, there may be a glob of **** in the fuel tank that blocks the pickup. If this is the problem, the tank needs to be taken out and cleaned.I hope this is a start to get you back on the road.

1995 Jeep grand cherokee is missing while running. When it is under a heavy load (driving fast) it runs fine. When idleing and slow driving it spits and sputters.

I have the same problem on my 95 grand cherokee laredo. Sometimes it starts out fine and after about 10 miles it starts spitting and sputtering. Then after a while it seems to clean out and run fine again for a little while. Then other times it starts out spitting and sputtering at the begining. I changed the fuel filter and that was not it. It is a 4.0L 6cyc. Any Ideas?

Thanks,

Car spits and sputters and stalls after driving a while

sounds like a fuel pump problem, with fuel pumps u can have pressure but not enough volume, try goin up a steeper hill in 2nd gear and get about 3000 rpms on the engine and see if it really drops out bad and is really gutless,if that happens without a check engine light coming on it might be yur pump and u should also replace the fuel filter at the same time, hope this helps
